[Problem] To provide a rectangular nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery for which the generation of a magnetic field due to current during use is suppressed and the danger of internal shorts between the positive electrode tab and negative electrode tab is reduced. [Solution] The positive electrode tab and negative electrode tab are both disposed at the beginning side of a winding for wound electrodes. An outer housing and sealing plate are welded in a state with the positive electrode tab sandwiched at a mating part of the outer housing and sealing plate. The negative electrode tab is electrically connected to a negative electrode terminal provided on the sealing plate. The positive electrode tab and negative electrode tab are divided by a space of 2-12 mm in the direction of battery width.

Nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery

A spiral electrode rectangular battery has a first electrode plate and second electrode plate, which are the positive and negative electrodes, laminated together with a separator sandwiched in between, rolled into an electrode unit, and housed in an exterior casing. The electrode unit has flat surfaces on opposite sides, and edges on both sides of those flat surfaces are curved with a prescribed radius of curvature to form rounded edge regions. The first and second electrode plates are wound around flat surfaces and rounded edge regions in a continuous fashion, and the end of the outer-most electrode plate is disposed at a rounded edge region. In addition, corner cuts are provided to truncate corner regions formed between the edges at both sides and the end of the outer-most electrode plate.

Electrode for lithium batteries and rechargeable lithium battery

A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary cell excellent in cycle characteristics is provided. This purpose is achieved by the following structure. A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary cell has a positive electrode having a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode having a negative electrode active material, and a non-aqueous electrolyte having a non-aqueous solvent and an electrolytic salt. The positive electrode active material has a lithium-cobalt compound oxide having added therein at least zirconium. The non-aqueous electrolyte has LiBFat from 0.05 to 1.0 mass % of a total mass of the non-aqueous electrolyte and unsaturated cyclic carbonate at from 1.0 to 4.0 mass %. The true density ratio of the positive electrode is 0.72 or greater, the true density ratio being represented by formula 1 shown below: (Formula 1) True density ratio=active material apparent density of electrode active material layer&#xf7;true density of active material.

Non-aqueous electrolyte secondary cell

A rechargeable lithium battery including a positive electrode, a negative electrode and a nonaqueous electrolyte, said positive or negative electrode being an electrode which has, on a current collector, a thin film of active material that stores and releases lithium, the thin film of active material being divided into columns by gaps formed therein in a manner to extend in its thickness direction, and the columnar portions being at their bottoms adhered to the current collector, the rechargeable lithium battery being characterized in that the nonaqueous electrolyte includes a mixed solvent consisting of two or more different solvents and containing at least ethylene carbonate and/or vinylene carbonate as its constituent.

Lithium secondary battery

An electrode for lithium batteries, in which a thin film of active material capable of storage and release of lithium, such as a microcrystalline or amorphous silicon thin film, is provided, through an interlayer, on a current collector, the electrode being characterized in that the interlayer comprises a material alloyable with the thin film of active material.

The present invention provides a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary cell that has good high-temperature cycle characteristics and good high-temperature standing resistance, and that is highly safe enough to prevent overcharge. The non-aqueous electrolyte secondary cell of the invention utilizes a non-aqueous electrolyte that includes a vinylene carbonate derivative, a cyclic sulfite derivative, and both/either of a phenylcycloalkane derivative and/or an alkylbenzene derivative having a quaternary carbon directly bonded to a benzene ring.

An electrode having a current collector and, formed thereon, a thin film comprising an active material, characterized in that a thin alloy film (such as Sn&#x2014;Co) comprising a metal which can form an alloy with lithium (such as Sn) and a metal which can not form an alloy with lithium (such as Co) is formed on a current collector such as a copper foil. It is preferred that the above metal which can form an alloy with lithium and the above metal which can not form an alloy with lithium can not form an intermetallic compound with each other.
