A high-precision distance measuring with a reduced error in a distance measuring system which calculates a distance from an arrival time of each pulse signal constituting a pulse sequence is provided. For an oscillator which generates pulse signals by counting the number of pulse signals constituting a received pulse sequence, a relative time difference between a transmitting device and a return device is acquired, a distance from the transmitting device to the return device is calculated, and the calculated distance is corrected based on the calculated relative time difference.

Distance measuring system

A first communication apparatus sequentially generates a pulse sequence having pulse signals arranged based on the UWB communication system, performs a framing process to form a frame having at least a preamble and a data portion on the generated pulse sequence and inserts a preamble segment including a sequence of steady pulse signals in the data portion at a predetermined time interval, and transmits it as a radio wave. A second communication apparatus receives a pulse sequence as a radio wave transmitted from the first communication apparatus, and detects at least the preamble segment from the frame contained in the received pulse sequence through a detection window structured to have a predetermined time length, whereby a transmission timing for the pulse sequence to the first communication apparatuscontrolled according to a state of detection of the preamble segment.

Delay estimation apparatus and method, comprising: a correlation step which a correlation function between a received signal and a supplied template waveform is generated, AD conversion step at which said correlation output generated at said correlation step is uniformly sampled into discrete samples; and arithmetic operation step at which a time delay estimate of the received signal based on said discrete samples generated at said AD conversion step is computed, wherein a selection criterion depending on the digital sampling frequency used at said AD conversion means is checked, if said selection criterion is satisfied, computes the time delay estimate based on the direct pick method, and if said selection criterion does not hold, computes the time delay estimate based on the simplified maximum likelihood (ML) method.

Delay estimation apparatus and method

An antenna common to a plurality of frequencies in which a wide band of a UWB system can be covered while suppressing interference with other systems. The antenna comprises a plurality of element part conductors, coupling conductors for coupling them electrically, and a feeder for coupling one element part conductor electrically with a feeder part capable of feeding to that element part conductor, wherein respective element part conductors are concatenated sequentially by the coupling conductors. The element part conductor has a shape substantially symmetric to a line connecting the coupling conductors or the parts coupled with the feeder. Each coupling conductor is arranged substantially linearly and the plane part of each planar conductor is arranged substantially vertically.

Wide band antenna common to a plurality of frequencies

The wideband L-loop antenna is presented in this invention. It has excellent performance for lower band of UWB system and has the attractive features of small size, inexpensive, and easy to design. The antenna composed of a single metallic layer is printed on the top of a substrate and a coupled tapered transmission line is printed on the top of the same substrate. A L shape portion is formed by widening partially or wholly the width of a part of antenna elements in comparison with the other part.

Ultra wideband loop antenna

A wireless impulse transmitter that is for transmitting pulse trains to a plurality of receivers, includes a pulse selector, a pulse supplier, and a transmission unit. The pulse selector is for selecting, from a plurality of orthogonal pulse shapes assigned in a two-to-one correspondence with the receivers, pulse shapes corresponding to symbols of an input data stream. Each of the two pulse shapes assigned to each receiver represents either one or zero to the corresponding receiver. The pulse supplier is for supplying pulses in pulse shapes selected by the pulse selector. The transmission unit is for transmitting the pulses supplied from the pulse supplier in pulse trains, wherein pulses with pulse shapes assigned to different receivers are transmitted simultaneously.

Wireless impulse transmitter, receiver, and method

This invention has as its object to implement the constitution of a receiver that receives signals sent by performing multi-valued pulse modulation and performs iterative decoding. The constitution includes: (1) a bank of pulse correlators that achieves correlation with all predetermined sent pulse waveforms, (2) a pulse demapper that calculates the log likelihood ratio for each bit of the interleaved code word from said pulse correlator outputs and a priori information for each bit, (3) a deinterleaver that performs deinterleaving on the output from said pulse demapper, (4) a decoder that calculates likelihood information for the deinterleaved code word bits and information bits, respectively, (5) an interleaver that interleaves the output of the decoder in the same manner as on the sending side, and (6) a feedback circuit that provides feedback of the output of said interleaver as a priori probability to the pulse demapper.

Constitution of a receiver in an ultra-wideband wireless communications system

A slot antenna includes an insulation substrate, a metal layer provided on the insulation substrate, a slot formed in the metal layer, and a feeding part connected to the metal layer. The slot is symmetric with respect to a centerline. When an x-y coordinate system is defined on the metal layer so that the y-axis is the symmetric line, the origin is the center of the slot antenna, and the x-axis through the origin is perpendicular to the y-axis, the width of the slot in the direction of the y-axis increasing in proportion to the absolute value of the x-axis.

Ultra wideband bow-tie slot antenna

A printed antenna includes a dielectric substrate having a pair of printed antenna elements to form a dipole antenna. On an antenna plane, an xy axis system is defined so that an origin is defined at a center of location of the antenna elements, and an x axis is set in a direction that the antenna elements are arranged, a y axis is set in the direction perpendicular to the x axis, and a size of the antenna elements in the direction of the y axis become gradually larger according to the x axis changing in an outer direction. Each of the antenna elements has an impedance matching part at a feeding side of the antenna elements. The printed antenna can be used in an ultra wide-band frequency, and is small profile, is light weight and low in cost.

Ultra wideband bow-tie printed antenna

To provide a transmission apparatus and a communication system that transmit a plurality of transmission signals riding on different interfering transmission beams, separate and receive the transmission signal at the receiving side, and estimate the original transmission signal by maximum likelihood estimation based on the correlation among the received signals. A transmission apparatus which encodes the transmission signal by an encoding means to generate at least two transmission signals Sand S, modulates the signals to the carrier frequencies, weights them and supplies them to the antenna elements, and controls the weights to transmit the modulated output signals by beams partially overlapping each other in space. A reception apparatus which separates and receives the transmission signals by a channel adaptive antenna to receive at least two received signals RSand RSand estimates the original transmission signal using maximum likelihood estimation, for example, a Viterbi decoding algorithm, based on the correlation between the received signals so as to reduce the error rate of the received signal and realize an improvement of the quality of communication.

Transmission apparatus, transmission method, communication system, and method of same

The spread spectrum receiver employs circuits based on direct conversion techniques. These circuits enable realization of spread spectrum receivers of greatly reduced complexity and of much higher chip rates that can be implemented with the standard approach of a fully digital receiver. With these circuits, the digital processing is performed at the data symbol rate and not at a multiple of the chip rate that is customary in state-of-the art spread spectrum and CDMA receiver design.

Spread spectrum receiver

A receiver includes a phased array antenna and a demodulator. The phased array antenna includes first and second antenna elements and a phase shifter for shifting the phase of a signal received by the first antenna element by a predetermined amount. The demodulator includes a first junction circuit which receives a local signal and a signal output from the phase shifter and which generates a plurality of signals having a phase difference; a second junction circuit which receives a local signal and a signal output from the second antenna element and which generates a plurality of signals having a phase difference; signal combiners for combining corresponding signals output from the two junction circuits; power detectors for detecting the signal levels of the output signals of the signal combiners; and a converter for converting the outputs signals of the power detectors so as to obtain IQ signals.

Receiver

A high-performance demodulator for use in UWB (Ultra WideBand) multiple-access communication is disclosed. In a communication device, the correlation between a received signal corresponding to signals transmitted from a plurality of communication terminals by means of UWB (Ultra WideBand) communication and pulses at possible positions in a signal transmitted from each communication terminal is calculated. On the basis of the resultant calculated correlation, and taking into account interference among the signals transmitted from the communication terminals, the received signal is demodulated into original data issued by the respective communication terminals.

The universal platform for the SDR of the present invention employs the direct conversion approach with the n-port MMIC followed by reconfigurable reprogrammable devices such as DSP's or FPGA's. The universal platform is based on the linear operation of the devices. Thus, the DC offset problem may be solved. It is also possible to support very wide bandwidths compared with conventional I/Q receivers. Therefore, the present universal platform is suitable for multimode and multiband communications.
