Generating an interactive discovery feed of place of interest items (POIs) relevant to a user is provided. A relevant POI discovery feed system curates a collection of narratives about various POIs from multiple sources and generates a plurality of POI content feed items including content items (e.g., photos, maps, links to additional information or related POIs) extracted from the collection of narratives. The system determines a set of POIs relevant to a user based on user-selected topics of interest and user preferences inferred from signals generated from user interactions with the system, and generates a discovery feed of POI content feed items associated with the set of relevant POIs for display to the user. In some examples, the items are presented in a card-based UI. Users are enabled to easily discover new places, view photos, and learn more about POIs in a consistent presentation of POI-related content feed items.

Topic-based place of interest discovery feed

Methods and systems for providing targeted recommendations are provided. A user model is generated from user data. Feed candidates are generated based on the user model. The generated feed candidates are ranked on a predetermined scale. At least one targeted recommendation from the ranked feed candidates. The at least one targeted recommendation feed is provided to a user associated with the user data.

Personalized user-categorized recommendations

Disclosed are various embodiments relating to generating profile-based groups to obtain suggestions regarding a topic. Third party profiles corresponding to third party users are identified based on a similarity to a profile associated with a client device of a user. A network page that is configured to facilitate discussion regarding a topic is generated and transmitted to a client device and third party devices associated with the third party users. Suggestions regarding the topic may be received from the third party devices via the network page.

Generating item suggestions from a profile-based group

Disclosed are various embodiments relating to generating profile-based item suggestions from a stylist when purchasing items through an electronic commerce system. A network page is rendered in a client computing device comprising an input field to input descriptions of items the user wishes to purchase and a stylist profile selection mechanism to select a suggested stylist profile. The user inputs descriptions of items and selects the suggested stylist profile. An item suggestions request comprising the item descriptions and the selected stylist profile is sent from the client computing device to a server computing device.

A network page is rendered in a client computing device comprising a topic field to input a topic and a third party criteria selection mechanism to select at least one third party user. The user inputs the topic and the third party criteria. A request for suggestions relating to the topic is then sent from the client computing device to a server computing device.

A system is disclosed that integrates secondary content, such as articles retrieved from a collaborative encyclopedia or other content site, into an electronic catalog system or site that hosts an interactive electronic catalog. In some embodiments, the system operates by retrieving secondary content articles from an external system or site, and by supplementing these articles with interactive display elements for accessing related catalog content and/or functions. For example, if an article mentions a particular catalog item or group of catalog items, it may be supplemented with a selectable display element for viewing catalog content associated with the referenced item or item group. The supplemented articles are made available to users via pages of the electronic catalog system or site.
