An apparatus includes a case, a motor, a gear mechanism, a lubrication mechanism, and a cooling mechanism. The motor and the gear mechanism are housed in the case. The gear mechanism includes a specified gear and a first gear. A vertical lower section of the first gear is positioned above a surface of the oil. The lubrication mechanism lubricates the gear mechanism by the oil thrown up by the specified gear. The cooling mechanism includes an oil pump and a pipe. The oil pump and the pipe supply the oil reserved in the case to the motor. The pipe is located above the first gear. The pipe has a hole, and the oil discharged from the hole. The hole is positioned above the first gear. A normal line direction of the hole differs from a vertically downward direction. The first gear does not overlap the normal line direction.

A heat-generating portion cooling structure of vehicle drive apparatus that sufficiently supplies cooling oil to heat-generating portions to enhance efficiency of the vehicle drive apparatus when the heat-generating portions generate maximum heat includes drawing means for drawing oil in a case into a catch tank, and an oil circulation passage for circulating the oil through the catch tank while supplying the oil to first and second heat-generating portions. The oil circulation passage includes a first passage for the oil to flow to the first heat-generating portion when the oil surface in the catch tank is at a first height and a second passage for the oil to flow to the second heat-generating portion when the oil surface is at a second height lower than the first height, and more amount of oil flows to the second heat-generating portion than to the first heat-generating portion when the oil surface is low.

Heat-generating portion cooling structure of vehicle drive apparatus

A vehicle power transmission device having a structure with a carrier of a planetary gear device brought into spline fitting with a case that is a non-rotating member to stop rotating and a ring gear of the planetary gear device rotatably supported by the case via a bearing, is provided with a play reducing device that presses the carrier against the case to reduce a play in thrust direction formed between the carrier and the case.
