One embodiment is a biochip having an array of biosensors for quantitative determination of protein-protein and/or antibody-antigen interactions. The array comprises at least two biosensors formed on a substrate. The biosensors can be used to detect either the same or different analytes. The biosensors may be acoustical transducers operated in the thickness shear mode of vibration, wherein the density, viscosity, and elasticity at the sensor interface can be ascertained. Additionally, a series of fluidic channels are etched to the same depth as the biosensors. The fluidic channels serve to efficiently deliver the sample to the biosensors. One or more biochips can be housed within an enclosure.

Piezoelectric biochips having fluidic channels

A sensor is disclosed for analyzing information, such as interfacial interactions, found in various systems. A sensor is located proximate to an interface that is to be studied. The sensor is actuated in order to produce acoustical signals. The frequency of oscillation of the sensor is varied in order to enable the sensor to produce acoustical signals at different harmonics. The different acoustical signals are used to analyze the system at various distances from the surface of the sensor.

Method and apparatus for interfacial sensing

An acoustic blood analyzer with a transducer section of acoustic biosensors for measurement of blood properties including, but not limited to blood coagulation, platelet function and various blood disorders in a blood sample is provided. Methods for use of the blood analyzer in measurement of blood properties are also provided.

Acoustic blood analyzer for assessing blood properties

A method and apparatus are described for non-contact measurement of torque applied to a torque-bearing member such as a shaft. The method involves the use of a piezoelectric transducer mechanically coupled to the shaft for rotation therewith, and having electrical characteristics responsive to applied torque. Electrical signal characteristics are changed by the torque-dependent transducer characteristics. The electrical signals are coupled to the outside (non-rotating) world by at least one capacitive coupler. In one embodiment, an fixed-frequency oscillator produces signal, and the transmission of the signal is affected by the torque-dependent resonant frequency of the transducer. In another embodiment, the transducer is coupled in the feedback loop of a circuit to form an oscillator, in which the frequency is responsive to the torque. A transducer may be placed and distributed in a protective holder. The holder may be pierced in particular locations in order to increase or decrease its sensitivity. One transducer is in the form of a monolithic mounting/transducer.
