Thermoplastic elastomer compositions, in particular derived from one or more styrenic block copolymers wherein at least one styrenic block copolymer comprises a controlled distribution copolymer block including a conjugated diene and a mono alkenyl arene, a plurality of biorenewable materials, preferably a softener and one or more synergistic additives such as a polar polymer; a synergistic block copolymer such as a relatively high molecular weight styrenic block copolymer; and/or filler. Numerous desirable articles can be formed from the compositions. Processes for preparing the compositions and articles are disclosed.

Polymer composition

The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a dynamically vulcanized thermoplastic elastomer comprising simultaneously mixing a thermoplastic polyolefin, a vulcanizable rubber and a curing agent in a co-rotating twin-screw extruder whereby the vulcanizable rubber is cured during mixing. The residence time in the extruder is less than 40 sec, the ratio of specific Energy (Espec)/residence time is at least 24 kW/kg and the ratio of the residence time/(Length/Diameter) is less than 0.60 sec. The invention further relates to the dynamically vulcanized thermoplastic elastomer obtainable by the process and to the use of the dynamically vulcanized thermoplastic elastomer in sealing systems, building profiles and extrusion applications.

Process for the preparation of a dynamically vulcanized thermoplastic elastomer

Foamed thermoplastic polyolefin elastomer is formed by heating a foamable thermoplastic polyolefin elastomer-containing polymeric composition containing each of a first water-releasing blowing agent which is at least one of metal hydroxide and water hydrate of a salt of a metal of Group 1 or Group 2 of the Periodic Table and a second blowing agent which is neither a metal hydroxide nor a water hydrate of a salt of a metal of Group 1 or Group 2 of the Periodic Table, to a temperature above the melting point of the polyolefin elastomer. The second blowing agent may be a chemical blowing agent and may release, water, a mixture of water and carbon dioxide or another gas, including carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen.
