Disclosed is an abrasion resistant adherend, which comprises a vulcanized rubber layer and ceramic pieces juxtaposed and embedded in the rubber layer and in which the ceramic pieces are at least partly exposed out of the rubber layer and are provided with a penetrative sintering layer in such a portion thereof as being in contact with the rubber layer.

A method for jointing ceramic elements is disclosed. Ceramic elements to be joined are arranged between a pair of torces each having a nozzle for spouting combustion gas. The joint line of ceramic elements is first heated by flames of combustion gas spouted from each nozzle and, then, a high voltage is applied between said pair of torches. Ceramic elements are joined by said heating and applying a high voltage between torches.

A composite material composed of a non-oxide type ceramic and iron or an alloy thereof is disclosed, wherein the non-oxide type ceramic is formed with a copper metallized surface and bonded to the iron or alloy thereof with an intermediate layer of Invar steel, Kovar or copper disposed between the copper metallized surface and the iron or alloy thereof.

Non-oxide ceramics-metal composite material

A method for the adhesion of oxide type ceramics and copper or a copper alloy is provided by this invention, which method comprises placing the oxide type ceramics and the copper or copper alloy in mutual contact, heating them in an oxidative atmosphere thereby effecting adhesion thereof, and rapidly cooling the resultant composite of adhesion. The adhesive strength of the composite of adhesion so produced is about 40% higher than the adhesive strength of a similar composite of adhesion obtained by the conventional method involving gradual cooling.

Method for adhesion of oxide type ceramics with copper or alloy thereof

An adhesive agent having, as its active components, copper sulfide and at least one member selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica, and kaoline enables the opposed surfaces of two oxide-type ceramic articles to be joined to each other with high adhesive strength, this fast union being accomplished by interposing the adhesive agent between the opposed surfaces of the ceramic articles and heating the adhesive agent to a temperature of not less than 1000.degree. A process for metallizing the surface of a ceramic is provided. The surface of a ceramic is coated with a mixture of SiO.sub.2 and at least one copper compound selected from the group consisting of copper carbonate, copper sulfate, copper sulfide, copper oxide, and copper chloride. Thereafter, the film is heated at 900.degree. to 1300.degree. C. in an oxidizing atmosphere to form a baked layer on the surface of the ceramic. The ceramic having the baked layer formed thereon is subjected to a reduction treatment to form a copper-metallized layer on the surface of the ceramic.

An adhesive having as its active component at least one fluoride selected from the group consisting of alkali metal fluorides except for sodium fluoride and alkaline earth metal fluorides except for calcium fluoride or a combination of the aforementioned at least one fluoride with kaolin and an adhesive having as its active component a combination of at least one member selected from the group consisting of yttria and alkaline earth metal compounds except for fluorides, an alkali metal fluoride, and at least one member selected from the group consisting of kaolin and alkaline earth metal fluorides both provide fast adhesion easily between two ceramic articles by a method which comprises the steps of interposing the adhesive between the ceramic articles and heating the ceramic articles with the adhesive therebetween to a temperature equal to or higher than the decomposition temperature of the fluoride in the adhesive.
