A high-strength, high-damping-capacity cast iron having both a high strength and high vibration damping capacity is provided. The high-strength, high-damping-capacity cast iron is obtained by a method including performing a graphite spheroidizing treatment on a molten metal, and consists of 2% to 4% of C, 1% to 5% of Si, 0.2% to 0.9% of Mn, 0.1% or less of P, 0.1% or less of S, 3% to 7% of Al, 0% to 1% of Sb, 0% to 0.5% of Sn, 0.02% to 0.10% of Mg, 01% to 0.5% of RE (Ce, La), Fe as balance, and unavoidable impurity.

High-strength, high-damping-capacity cast iron

A highly stiff and highly damping cast iron containing C and Si in an amount of 3.30 to 3.95% in terms of carbon equivalent shown in the following equation (1), Mn: 0.25 to 1.0%, P: 0.04% or less, S: 0.03% or less, Al: 3 to 7%, and Sn: 0.03 to 0.20%, balance being Fe and unavoidable impurities:Carbon equivalent (%)=C(%)+(1/3)&#xd7;Si(%)&#x2003;&#x2003;(1).

Highly stiff and highly damping cast iron

A Ni alloy layer is formed on a surface of a steel base on the side to be in direct contact with a molten aluminum alloy, and titanium carbide (TiC) is bonded in a particulate state to the surface of the Ni alloy layer. This makes it possible to provide a metal material having materially enhanced melting loss resistance without resorting to conventional techniques, such as the provision of a ceramic coating by PVD or CVD.
