A piston that moves reciprocally in the cylinder of an internal combustion engine and has a piston skirt that makes sliding contact with the inner wall of the cylinder. Solid lubrication parts are provided on the sliding-contact surface of the piston skirt. The solid lubrication parts include at least one type of silver, silver alloy, copper, or copper alloy, and at least one type of carbon material or carbide ceramics.

Piston for internal combustion engine

A sliding member for which adhesiveness between the surface of a base member and metal coating is enhanced. An undercoat layer having a resin material at the surface thereof is provided, and a solid lubricating portion is formed on the undercoat layer so as to provide a sliding face from at least one kind of material of silver, silver alloy, copper and copper alloy. An intermixture layer in which both the undercoat layer and the solid lubricating portion are intermixed with each other is interposed between the undercoat layer and the solid lubricating portion.

Sliding member and method for producing sliding member

There are provided a sliding member that is enhanced in adhesiveness between the surface of a base member formed of aluminum or aluminum alloy and silver coating with a simple construction, and a method of manufacturing the sliding member. In a pistonhaving a sliding facewhich slides in a cylinder bore, a silver coating layerconstituting the sliding faceis provided on the outer peripheral surfaceof a main bodyformed of aluminum alloy, and the silver coating layeris formed by coating slurry having silver particlesdispersed in terpineol on the outer peripheral surfaceof the main bodyand heating the coated slurry and the main bodyto remove terpineol in the slurry and fuse the silver particleswith one another.

Process for producing sliding member and sliding member

Provided is an aluminum alloy piston for an internal combustion engine. In the internal combustion engine, the piston moves back and forth in a sleeve made of grey cast iron or an aluminum alloy. Further, the piston, which is made from silver, silver alloy, copper, or copper alloy, is provided with a film that covers the scoring that is formed on the piston skirt and there are undulations in the surface of the film, formed from protrusions and depressions. There is a difference of 8-15 &#x3bc;m between the lowest point of the depressions and the highest point of the protrusions. The pitch of adjacent protrusions corresponds to the pitch of projections in the scoring. In addition, the arithmetic average roughness (Ra) of the protrusion peaks does not exceed 60 nm.

There is provided a method by which a member having an undercut in the inner peripheral portion thereof can be formed readily. To form a material () formed with a recess () and the undercut () by using a swaging device, while the material () is first gripped by a clamper (), and a mandrel () is inserted into the recess () of the material (). The mandrel () used has an outside diameter equal to the inside diameter of a blind hole of an aimed product (fuel injection nozzle). Then, the material () is pushed in by the mandrel () to a position at which the material () abuts on a stopper (), and the outside surface of the material () is struck by swaging dies () to perform a swaging operation. This swaging operation reduces the inside diameter of the recess () to the outside diameter of the mandrel (), with the undercut () left.
