An airbag device includes an airbag provided with an inlet port of inflation gas, an inflator which includes gas outlet ports in an upper region of the body, a bag holder which is formed from synthetic resin and includes an insert opening for receiving the inflator body, and an airbag cover which includes a door openable at airbag deployment. The bag holder includes a support board which supports a bottom surface of the airbag as folded including a periphery of the inlet port, and a gas guide tube which extends upward from a periphery of the insert opening and is fitted in the inlet port of the airbag. The guide tube as fitted in the inlet port is greater in height than the upper region of the inflator body. The airbag further includes, in a vicinity of the bottom surface, a joint section which is joined to the support board.

Airbag device

An airbag has a main bag portion that is provided with an occupant protective surface which is disposed to face the occupant and an auxiliary bag portion that can be disposed on the left side of the storage part, between the main bag portion and a vehicle body-side member, when the inflation is completed. The auxiliary bag portion is configured to enable an inflating gas to flow into an inside thereof through the main bag portion, is configured to be inflated under control of a control mechanism in association with a collision mode of a vehicle, and is configured to be interposed between the main bag portion and the vehicle body-side member and to be capable of pushing a region of the occupant protective surface on a side of the auxiliary bag portion, which is inflated, toward a side of the occupant, when the inflation is completed.

Airbag apparatus

An airbag includes a driver side portion having an outer peripheral wall to receive a driver at the time of completion of inflation; and a steering wheel side portion. The steering wheel side portion is provided with an inflow opening to allow inflation gas to flow in, and an attaching seat which is disposed on a peripheral edge of the inflow opening and attached to the central portion of the steering wheel; a support inflation portion protruding from a front side of the attaching seat toward a front side of the steering wheel is arranged on the steering wheel side portion; and a support surface portion. The support surface portion is abutted to and supported by a front surface side of the steering wheel and is arranged on a region on a rear surface side of the support inflation portion from a base portion to a tip end portion.

Airbag

An airbag includes: an outer member configured to form an outer peripheral wall upon completing inflation, which includes a driver side portion configured to receive a driver, and a steering-wheel side portion supported by a steering wheel; and an inner member provided to expand inside the outer member. The inner member has a supply port for supplying inflation gas to the outer member and covers the inflow opening of the outer member to be arranged on an upstream side of flow of the inflation gas flowing from the inflow opening into the airbag such that a higher pressure can be maintained in the inner member than the outer member. The inner member includes a front support inflating portion configured to support a portion of the driver side portion of the outer member at least at a front side upon completing inflation of the airbag.

An airbag includes: a bag body forming the outer peripheral wall; and a regulating member disposed on an outer peripheral side of the bag body at a time of inflation completion of the bag body. The regulating member is configured so as to be able to regulate the bag body so that an area ranging from the vicinity of a joint portion for mutually joining the outer peripheral edge of the vehicle body side panel and the outer peripheral edge of the occupant side panel to a side of the gas inflow port at the time of inflation completion of the airbag is made smaller in external dimensions and reduced in size than an area at a time of free inflation state of the bag body.

An occupant protection device includes an airbag, covering a front area from a passenger seat to a driver seat at the time of completion of inflation, including: a passenger-seat receiving inflation part; a driver-seat receiving inflation part; an inflow side inflation part; an end-side flow path part disposed so that both ends of the inflow side inflation part in the right and left direction are respectively connected with end edges of the passenger-seat receiving inflation part and the driver-seat receiving inflation part; and a central flow path part disposed so that the inflow side inflation part is connected with a proximity edge part where the passenger-seat receiving inflation part is close to the driver-seat receiving inflation part, wherein the inflow side inflation part is configured so that at least both right and left end sides at the time of completion of inflation are attached in the housing portion.

Occupant protection device

A completely folded body of an airbag includes: a front-side folded portion; and a rear-side folded portion, wherein: the front-side folded portion has such a folded shape that a tip separated longitudinally from the mounting portion of the front overlapped portion is stored in a dent portion, in which a front side is open and a rear side is dented, between a mounting-portion-side folded portion near the mounting portion and a central folded portion between the tip and the mounting-portion-side folded portion; the tip of the front overlapped portion includes a leading edge separate longitudinally the farthest from the mounting portion, and a tip root-side portion connected to the leading edge; and the leading edge is provided on an upper side of the tip root-side portion in the front-side folded portion to be inverted rearward to a central side of the mounting portion.

Completely folded body of airbag and folding method of the same

An airbag device includes an airbag stored in a storage part provided in front of an occupant seated on a seat. The airbag has an occupant protecting section configured to protect the occupant on a rear surface at the time of completion of inflation; the occupant protecting section includes: an upper half body restraining surface configured to receive an upper half body of the occupant; and a head receiving section formed in a left region and a right region of a center in a left-right direction of the occupant protecting section to protrude rearward from the upper half body restraining surface, in a region above the upper half body restraining surface. The head receiving section is configured so that a part between a left restraining surface and a right restraining surface upon completion of inflation is continued from the upper half body restraining surface.

An airbag for knee protection includes at the center in a left and right direction of the upper edge an accommodation recess that recesses downward for accommodating an underside of the column cover. An outer wall of the upper region of the airbag is comprised of a panel material that is doubled on a turn crease that extends straightly through the panel in a left and right direction and forms the upper edge of the airbag. The airbag further includes beneath the turn crease and in the vicinity of the center in a left and right direction of the upper panel and above the thickness regulating tether a connecting member that approximates the driver-side wall and column cover side wall of the airbag to each other so as to provide the accommodation recess. The connecting member is arranged to form a communication passage between the connecting member and the turn crease that allows inflation gas to flow through in a left and right direction.

Airbag for knee protection

A wrapping sheet is to be torn by the inflation of an air bag. Since attachment shafts, used to hold the folded air bag in position, are projected from the air bag, an engagement portion of the wrapping sheet is fitted on the attachment shafts, and the shape of a folding completed body of the air bag is maintained. The wrapping sheet includes not only the engagement portion, but also a coupled portion to be connected to the air bag, and a folding form control portion, which has an auxiliary engagement portion to be fitted on the attachment shafts. When the auxiliary engagement portion is fitted on the attachment shafts, the shape of the air bag that is being folded is adjusted.

The knee-protecting airbag apparatus includes an airbag module and a mounting bracket for fixing the airbag module on a vehicle body. The mounting bracket is provided with a mounting hole that is adapted to be fastened to a mounting seat of the vehicle body. The airbag module includes a retaining lug for fixing the airbag module tentatively on the vehicle body. When the retaining lug is engaged with a periphery of a retaining hole of the vehicle body, a rearward rotation moment is generated to rotate the airbag module about the engaging point of the retaining lug and periphery of the retaining hole, so that a pressing plane of the airbag module formed above the retaining lug abuts on and gets supported by a receiving plane formed on the vehicle body such that the mounting hole of the mounting bracket is positioned on a fastening location of the mounting seat of the vehicle body.
