A control device includes a processor. The processor is configured to receive an execution request for write processing of writing data of logical volumes to second physical volumes. The data of the logical volumes is stored in first physical volumes. The processor is configured to generate write information on basis of data sizes of the respective logical volumes and free spaces of storage areas of the respective second physical volumes. The processor is configured to perform, on basis of the write information, control of writing first data of the logical volumes from a cache unit to the second physical volumes. The processor is configured to perform control of reading second data of the logical volumes from the first physical volumes to the cache unit. The processor is configured to optimize the write information in response to completion of the control of reading.

A tape device includes a tape drive, a storage unit, and a processor. The tape drive is configured to write plural data units in a magnetic tape formed with plural tracks. The storage unit is configured to store information indicating a reversal position set in a middle of the magnetic tape. The processor is configured to instruct the tape drive to start writing of a first data unit in the magnetic tape. The processor is configured to control the tape drive to continue the writing up to an end of the first data unit when a first write area crosses over the reversal position. The first data unit is written in the first write area. The processor is configured to control the tape drive to change a write destination from the first track to a second track after the first data unit is written and to reverse the write direction.

A control device manages a plurality of storage devices so that data to be recorded is redundantly recorded in different storage devices. A storage control apparatus manages a plurality of storage devices which belong to a RAID Logical Unit (RLU) such that data is made redundant between different storage devices, where RAID stands for Redundant Arrays of Independent Disks. If a first storage device fails, a rebuild controller executes a rebuild process to store the same data as recorded in the first storage device in a spare storage device. When the rebuild controller executing the rebuild process has failed in reading out data from a second storage device, a data recovery controller restarts the first storage device, and reads out data to be stored in the spare storage device from the restarted first storage device.
