A spherical annular seal memberis used in an exhaust pipe joint and includes a spherical annular base memberdefined by a cylindrical inner surface, a partially convex spherical surface, large- and small-diameter side annular end facesandof the partially convex spherical surface, and an outer layerformed integrally on the partially convex spherical surfaceof the spherical annular base member. The spherical annular base memberincludes a reinforcing member made from a metal wire netand a heat-resistant material containing expanded graphite filling meshes of the metal wire netof this reinforcing member and compressed in such a manner as to be formed integrally with this reinforcing member in mixed form. In the outer layer, the reinforcing member, the heat-resistant material, and the solid lubricant are integrated in mixed form.

In an exhaust pipe spherical joint X, a spherical annular seal memberis fitted and fixed to a pipe end portion, the spherical annular seal memberis seated by abutting against a flange, a flared portionformed of an Fe&#x2014;Cr base stainless steel and containing 17.00 to 19.00% by mass of Cr is secured to a downstream-side exhaust pipe, and an inner surfaceof a concave spherical surface portionis brought into slidable contact with a composite surfacein which a surfaceconstituted by a reinforcing memberand a surfaceconstituted by a solid lubricant are present in mixed form in an outer surfaceof an outer layerof the spherical annular seal member
