A hydrophilic coating having excellent hydrophilicity, which can prevent offensive odor generation, and which has a good antibacterial performance and formability, is formed on an aluminum-containing metal material by coating an aqueous hydrophilization treating liquid containing (A) a glycidyl group-containing, water-soluble organic compound; (B) a water-soluble polymeric or polymerizable compound having a tert-amino group and at least one hydrophilic functional group selected from sulfonic, phosphonic, carboxyl, polyalkyleneglycol, hydroxyl and amide groups; and (C) an antibacterial agent not decomposing at 100&deg; C. or lower, on an aluminum-containing metal material; and heat-drying the coated liquid.

Aqueous hydrophilization treatment composition and method for aluminum-containing metal material

An aluminum-containing metal composite material useful for heat exchangers having a satisfactory hydrophilic property, water-resistance and resistance to swelling with water and an enhanced durability is produced by coating an aluminum-containing metal substrate with an undercoat chemical conversion layer and then with an uppercoat resinous layer formed from a cross-linking reaction product of a polymeric compound (a) having a reactive amide, hydroxyl or carboxyl group with a cross-linking agent (b), in the presence of a water-soluble polymeric compound (c) having a sulfonic or sulfonate group, and in the cross-linking reaction product, the cross-linked molecules of the polymeric compound (a) form water-insoluble, three-dimensional network structures, and the molecules of the polymeric compound (c) are held in the network structures and thereby exhibit substantially no eluting property in water.

A heat exchanger made of aluminum includes a plurality of tubes made of aluminum through which a fluid to be heat exchanged flows, the tubes having a metal surface of aluminum; fins made of aluminum arranged between the tubes for accelerating heat exchange between the fluid to be heat-exchanged and air, the fins having a metal surface of aluminum; a first protecting film of a chemical conversion coating formed on the metal surfaces of the tubes and fins and containing a metal component; and a second protecting film of an antimicrobial agent coating on the first protecting film, at least on the fins among the tubes and fins, the second protecting film having a chemical bond with the metal component of the first protecting film. An example of the antimicrobial agent is 2,2'-dithiobis(pyridine-1-oxide).

Method of manufacturing an aluminum heat exchanger

A heat exchanger made of aluminum comprises a plurality of tubes made of aluminum through which a fluid to be heat exchanged flows, the tubes having a metal surface of aluminum; fins made of aluminum arranged between the tubes for accelerating heat exchange between the fluid to be heat-exchanged and air, the fins having a metal surface of aluminum; a first protecting film of a chemical conversion coating formed on the metal surfaces of the tubes and fins and containing a metal component; and a second protecting film of an antimicrobial agent coating on the first protecting film, at least on the fins among the tubes and fins, the second protecting film having a chemical bond with the metal component of the first protecting film. An example of the antimicrobial agent is 2,2'-dithiobis(pyridine-1-oxide).

Aluminum heat exchanger and method of manufacturing same

A heat exchanger has special usage such as an evaporator of an automotive air conditioner. This heat exchanger can improve wettability and can reduce a scattering of condensed water. This heat exchanger is treated by a special chemical conversion treatment so that this heat exchanger has two layers of coating on the surface thereof. One of the two layers is a chemical conversion coating formed on the surface of the heat exchanger. The other one is a resin coating formed over the chemical conversion coating. The chemical conversion coating is treated by immersing the heat exchanger into a water solution. The resin coating is also treated by immersing the heat exchanger having the chemical conversion coating into a water solution of organic high polymer material.

Aluminum heat exchanger and method for producing aluminum heat exchanger

A hydrophilic coating is formed on an aluminum surface by the application of an aqueous solution of an amphoteric acrylamide polymer which is dried in place. The polymer solution may contain a cross-linking agent and the dried coating may be subsequently treated to form a water-glass coating.

Method for hydrophilic treatment of aluminum using an amphoteric polymer

A method for imparting wettability to an aluminum heat exchanger comprises immersing the heat exchanger in an aqueous medium containing a silanol compound and polyvinyl pyrrolidone. If desired, the exchanger may be conversion coated or anodized prior to the immersion.
