An optical fiber fusion splicing method for performing fusion splicing through positioning of optical fibers to be spliced in a V-groove is provided. The optical fiber fusion splicing method includes pressing the optical fibers placed in the V-groove relatively toward the V-groove using a clamp, varying a clamp pressure of the clamp pressing the optical fibers, and moving the optical fibers placed in the V-groove with respect to the V-groove in an axial direction.

A reinforcement sleeve heating device is a reinforcement sleeve heating device heating a reinforcement sleeve put on a connecting site to shrink the reinforcement sleeve in order to reinforce the connecting site of optical fibers fusion-spliced to each other. The reinforcement sleeve heating device includes: a heating element forming a housing space, the housing space extending in a predetermined direction, the housing space being opened in one direction intersecting with the predetermined direction, the housing space being capable of disposing the reinforcement sleeve, and a cover disposed at a position at which at least a part of the opening of the housing space. In a state in which the reinforcement sleeve is disposed in the housing space, the cover includes a contact surface brought into contact with the reinforcement sleeve in a direction of pushing the reinforcement sleeve into an inside of the housing space.

A fusion splicer includes a first electrode, a second electrode, an optical fiber disposition unit, and a first conductive member. The first electrode has a first potential, the second electrode has a second potential lower than the first potential, and an arc discharge is generated therebetween. The optical fiber disposition unit has grooves in which first optical fibers and second optical fibers are accommodated. The first conductive member is provided apart from the grooves between the first electrode and the second electrode. The first conductive member has a third potential that is lower than the first potential and higher than the second potential, and is disposed at a position at which the shortest distance from one of the first electrode and the second electrode is shorter than the shortest distance from the other of the first electrode and the second electrode.

A device for fusion splicing, by an arc discharge, a pair or a plurality of pairs of optical fibers arranged so that end surfaces thereof face each other. An optical fiber arrangement portion positions the pair or the plurality of pairs of optical fibers between a pair of electrodes. A control portion controls a voltage applied to the pair of electrodes. The control portion generates a first discharge between the pair of electrodes, stops the first discharge between the pair of electrodes, and then generates an arc discharge between the pair of electrodes to fusion-splice the pair or the plurality of pairs of optical fibers to each other. A discharge time of the first discharge is 200 milliseconds or less. A time from stopping the first discharge to starting the arc discharge is 100 milliseconds or less.

A reinforcement device for an optical fiber fusion-spliced portion, which reinforces a fusion-spliced portion of optical fibers by heating and shrinking a reinforcement sleeve covering the fusion spliced portion, includes a heater configured to heat the reinforcement sleeve. The heater includes a sleeve housing portion capable of housing the reinforcement sleeve. The sleeve housing portion includes a first wall portion extending in a longitudinal direction of the sleeve housing portion and a second wall portion facing the first wall portion. The first wall portion and the second wall portion are configured such that a distance therebetween increases from a bottom portion side of the sleeve housing portion toward a top portion side of the sleeve housing portion in a cross-section orthogonal to the longitudinal direction. At least one bent portion is formed to at least one of the first wall portion and the second wall portion in the cross-section.

A reinforcing apparatus for reinforcing a fusion-splicing part between optical fibers includes a main body part, a heater that heats a heat-shrinkable tube covering the fusion-splicing part, and a pair of clamp parts that are provided at opposite sides of the heater and respectively hold an optical fiber or an optical connector. The pair of the clamp parts respectively include a storage part that stores the optical fiber or the optical connector, and a clamper that is rotatably supported in the main body part and can be disposed in an open state where an upper portion of the storage part is opened and in a closed state where the optical fiber or the optical connector stored in the storage part is sandwiched. A clamp part of at least one part of the pair of clamp parts includes a sliding part that is slidably mounted on a storage part.

An optical-fiber fusion-splicing device includes: a first heating device in which a fusion-splicing operation of heating and fusing abutting parts of at least a pair of optical fibers with end faces brought into contact with each other is performed; a second heating device in which a reinforcing operation of heating and shrinking a heat-shrinkable resin which covers a site where the optical fibers are fusion-spliced to each other is performed; and a CPU which controls the first heating device and the second heating device, wherein the CPU preheats a heater of the second heating device so as to reach a predetermined first temperature, if the CPU receives a heating end signal from the first heating device, and thereafter, heats the heater of the second heating device so as to reach a second temperature higher than the first temperature, if the CPU receives a reinforcement start signal.

This reinforcement device includes: a first heater (A) on which a fusion-spliced section of an optical fiber covered with a protective member is disposed and which heats a central portion of the protective member at a first temperature (T); second heaters (B) which are respectively provided on both sides of the first heater (A) along a longitudinal direction of the optical fiber and respectively heat both end portions of the protective member at a second temperature (T); and a CPU () which performs energization control for heating each of the first heater (A) and the second heaters (B), wherein the CPU () makes an energizing time of the first heater (A) and an energizing time of each of the second heaters (B) at least partially overlap.
