An apparatus for producing multifilaments having high fiber strength is disclosed. A spinneret melt spins a polyolefin at a first temperature into filaments. A cooling duct cools the filaments via convection at a second temperature. A chill roll, disposed downstream from the cooling duct, has a third temperature, and forcibly conductively cools the filaments. Finally, heated drawing rolls, disposed downstream from said chill roll, continuously draw the filaments at a high draw ratio.

Apparatus for producing multifilaments

An aliphatic polyester resin composition having a low combustion beat, characterized in that a filler is mixed with an aliphatic polyester having a number-average molecular weight of at least 10,000, synthesized from glycol and aliphatic polybasic acid or acid derivative thereof. A sheet formed from the composition bas excellent tensile strength, stiffness and impact strength as well as being biodegradable.

Nonwoven fabrics made of an aliphatic polyester having a melt viscosity of 5.0.times.10.sup.2 -2.times.10.sup.4 poises at a temperature of 190.degree. C. at a shear rate of 100 sec.sup.-1 and a melting point of 70.degree.-190.degree. C. The nonwoven fabric has biodegradability when it is buried in the ground and it is also excellent in tensile strength and tear propagation strength. Thus, the nonwoven fabric of the present invention is useful for sanitary materials, medical materials, packaging materials, agricultural covering materials, filters, oil absorption materials, materials for a daily life, padding cloth materials for clothes, cell separators, drain sheets for constructions and the like.

Foamed thin materials such as foamed film and foamed fibrillated materials produced by extruding a composition consisting of 100 parts by weight of aliphatic polyester having a melt viscosity of 1.0.times.10.sup.3 -1.0.times.10.sup.5 poises at a temperature of 190.degree. C. and a shear rate of 100 sec.sup.-1, and having a melting point of 70.degree.-200.degree. C., and 0.2-5 parts by weight of foaming agent. These foamed thin materials has biodegradability, excellent mechanical, insulating, touch and aesthetic properties. They are useful materials as insulating, packaging, oil absorbing materials and filters.

Polyester foamed thin materials

Polyester fiber consisting of an aliphatic polyester having a melt viscosity of 1.0.times.10.sup.2 -1.0.times.10.sup.4 poises at a temperature of 190.degree. C. at a shear rate of 1000 sec.sup.-1 and a melting point of 70-190.degree. C. The polyester fiber of the present invention exhibits biodegradability when buried in the ground. The amount of combustion heat generated on incineration is smaller than that of polyethylene and polypropylene. The polyester fiber of the present invention has excellent physical properties.

Polyester fibers

Flat and split yarn formed by extrusion molding, comprising as a main component an aliphatic polyester having a melt viscosity of 2.0.times.10.sup.3 -4.0.times.10.sup.4 poises at a temperature of 190.degree. C. and a shear rate of 100 sec.sup.-1, and having a melting point of 70.degree.-190.degree. C. The present invention provides flat and split yarn having excellent in heat stability and mechanical strength as well as having biodegradability.

A method for producing polyester foamed articles comprising: heating and foaming a resin composition comprising a foaming agent, and an aliphatic polyester having a melt viscosity of 1.0.times.10.sup.3 -1.0.times.10.sup.6 poises at a temperature of 190.degree. C. and a shear rate of 100 sec.sup.-1, and having a melting point of 70.degree.-190.degree. C. Extrusion or forming in a mold using preexpanded beads can be applied. The foamed articles such as insulating boxes and cushioning materials have biodegradability and excellent mechanical properties such as tensile strength and cushioning properties.

Tying tape-like materials formed by extrusion molding, comprising as a main component an aliphatic polyester having a melt viscosity of 1.0.times.10.sup.3 -4.0.times.10.sup.4 poises at a temperature of 190.degree. C. and a shear rate of 100 sec.sup.-1, and having a melting point of 70.degree.-190.degree. C. The present invention provides tying tape-like materials excellent in heat stability, mechanical strength and packing property as well as having biodegradability which can be used as packing materials.

A process for producing multifilaments which has the steps of: melt spinning a polyolefin at a first temperature; cooling the spun filaments with a first chill means which is of a non-contact type and is held at a second temperature; cooling the filaments at a third temperature with a second chill means which is of a contact type for forcibly cooling the filaments; and drawing continuously the filaments at high draw ratio in-line with heating rolls having a predetermined surface temperature so that the filaments cooled at the third temperature are directly and continuously treated by the heating rolls.

Process for producing multifilaments

A method for producing composite staple fibers whereby resin matrix and fine and short inorganic reinforcing fibers (e.g., vapor growth carbon fibers and/or potassium titanate whiskers) are processed. A resin material and fine and short inorganic reinforcing fibers having a fiber diameter of 1 .mu.m or less are blended, heated, and mixed to prepare a molten polymer containing dispersed reinforcing fibers. The molten polymer is spouted out of small apertures in a high speed rotator to form filaments. Hot gas is blown onto the spouted filaments to form composite staple fibers. Instead of using the spouting step and the hot gas blowing step, one can spin the molten polymer from spinning apertures into filaments, and simultaneously blow hot gas onto the filaments at a high flow velocity from gas discharging holes arranged near the spinning apertures to draw and cut the filaments into the staple fibers.

Water-absorbing composite body

An apparatus for the preparation of an elastic absorbent composed of a mixed web. Elements of the apparatus can include two supply hoppers for separately supplying pulverized pulp and staple fibers of a synthetic fiber split yarn at a constant mixing ratio with each hopper having a pair of confronting moving belts, two guide mechanisms located below the hoppers, a pair of nip rollers located below the guide mechanisms, a garnet roll located below the pair of nip rollers, a vacuum device located below the garnet roll, and a mesh belt located between the vacuum device and the garnet roll. Each guide mechanism in the apparatus may include at least two gear guides arranged in series. The apparatus operates by feeding the pulverized pulp and the staple fibers of the split yarn from the hoppers to the nip rolls via the guide mechanisms. The nip rolls compress the material, which is then disintegrated and mixed by the garnet roll. The mixture is pulled onto the mesh belt by the vacuum device.

Apparatus for the production of elastic absorbent

Disclosed is an elastic absorbent which comprises a substantially homogeneous mixture of pulverized cellulose pulp and staple fibers of a split yarn obtained by splitting a tape-form oriented laminate comprising at least one layer of a synthetic resin having a high melting point and at least one layer of a synthetic resin having a low melting point, in which the layer of the synthetic resin having a low melting point is at least partially exposed to the surface. Another elastic absorbent comprises an intermediate layer of a powdery polymeric water-absorbing agent, which is interposed between upper and lower layers, each of the upper and lower layers comprising a substantially homogeneous mixture of pulverized cellulose pulp and staple fibers of the same split yarn as mentioned above. At the crossing points of the staple fibers, of the split yarn, the synthetic resin having a low melting point is at least partially fusion-bonded and the staple fibers of the split yarn are connected to one another in the state where the cellulose pulp is partially enclosed therein.
