A system for coupling a shroud to a case associated with a gas turbine engine and a gas turbine engine including such a system includes the case defining a bore and the shroud retained within the case. The shroud defines a pocket. The system includes a pin received through the bore and at least partially positioned within the pocket. The pin has a perimeter. The system includes a load spreader including a first side and a second side opposite the first side. The first side is interconnected to the second side by a flexible portion. The first side, the second side and the flexible portion are received about a portion of the perimeter of the pin, and the load spreader is configured to transmit at least one of an axial point load and a circumferential point load from the pin over a surface of the shroud.

Compliant retention system for gas turbine engine

A turbomachine includes a shroud and a rotor, which includes first and second blades. A first blade tip and a second blade tip respectively include a base and a first layer. The second blade tip also includes an abrasive second layer layered over the respective first layer. The first layer has a lower material hardness than the shroud. The second layer has a lower thermal stability than the shroud and the first layer. The rotor performs a grind operation and, subsequently, a post-grind operation. The second layer, in the grind operation, contacts and removes material from the shroud, and wears away, thereby revealing the first layer of the second blade tip for the post-grind operation. The first layer of the first blade tip is spaced apart with at least some radial clearance from the shroud in the grind and post-grind operations.

Rotor assembly for in-machine grinding of shroud member and methods of using the same

A retention and control system includes a rotor configured to rotate about an axis. A shroud ring has a peripheral groove and surrounds the rotor with a clearance defined between the rotor and the ring. A support ring engages the shroud ring in the peripheral groove and axially locates the shroud ring. The support ring includes a series of tabs, each with an aperture, projecting radially outward from the support ring. A retention spring engages the support ring radially outward from the shroud ring and includes a series of openings, one of which registers with each of the apertures. An alignment pin extends through each of the registered openings and apertures to locate the support ring and the engaged shroud ring concentrically with the turbine about the axis.
