A cermet insert includes a first surface, a second surface, a cutting edge, a third surface located opposite to the first surface, and a through hole extending from the first surface to the third surface. An inner wall constituting the through hole has, at least in a center portion, a binder-phase-rich layer having a higher binder phase content than an interior of the base. A thickness Tof the binder-phase-rich layer at the center portion is larger than a thickness Tof the binder-phase-rich layer at an end portion. The thickness Tis 1 μm or more and 20 μm or less, the thickness Tis 0.2 μm or more and 6 μm or less. The first surface includes a chip breaker. An arithmetic mean roughness Ra of the chip breaker is 0.05 μm or less when a cut-off value is 0.08 mm.

Cermet insert and cutting tool provided with cermet insert

An insert includes a base of a cermet including hard particles and a binder phase. The base includes first and second surfaces, a cutting edge on at least a part of a ridge line of the first and second surfaces, a third surface opposite to the first surface, and a through hole from the first surface to the third surface. An inner wall constituting the through hole includes a binder-phase-riched layer having a higher content of the binder phase than an inside of the base, at least in a center part. A thickness of the binder-phase-ricked layer in the center part is larger than a thickness of the binder-phase-ricked layer in an end part of the inner wall. A cutting tool includes a holder which has a pocket located at an end, the insert located in the pocket, and a clamp inserted in the through hole of the insert.

Insert and cutting tool including same

A cutting insert may include a base member. The base member may include a first surface, a second surface adjacent to the first surface, and a first cutting edge located in at least a part of a first ridge line which the first surface intersects with the second surface. The base member may include a hard phase containing a titanium carbonitride, and a binding phase containing at least one of cobalt and nickel. The hard phase may include a first hard phase observed on a higher angle side, and a second hard phase observed on a lower angle side in a comparison of () plane peak in an X-ray diffraction analysis. A compressive residual stress of the second hard phase in the second surface may be less than a compressive residual stress of the second hard phase in the first surface.

Cutting insert and cutting tool

A coated tool of the present disclosure may include a base and a coating layer covering at least a part of the base. The base may include a hard phase of a carbonitride including Ti and a binder phase including at least one of Co and Ni and has a thermal expansion coefficient at 25 to 1000&#xb0; C. of 9.0&#xd7;10/&#xb0; C. or more. The coating layer may include a TiCN layer and an AlOlayer positioned on the TiCN layer. The TiCN layer may have a compressive stress of 250 to 500 MPa. The AlOlayer may have a thickness of 2 &#x3bc;m or more and a compressive stress of 450 MPa or more, and the value of the compressive stress is greater than the compressive stress of the TiCN layer.

Coated tool and cutting tool including the same

The cutting insert may include a substrate including a first surface, a second surface, and a cutting edge. The substrate may include a hard phase and a binder phase, and the hard phase may include a first hard phase and a second hard phase. In X-ray diffraction analysis, a peak of the first hard phase may be observed on a higher angle side than a peak of the second hard phase. The second hard phase in the second surface may include a compressive residual stress of 150 MPa or more. A maximum height (Rz) in the second surface may be 0.2 to 1.5 &#x3bc;m. A maximum height of the cutting edge may be 2 to 30 times the maximum height in the second surface.

A cermet and a cutting tool are provided which have high wear resistance and high fracture resistance at a cutting edge even in a mode of cutting where the cutting edge comes to have a high temperature. A cermetincludes a hard phaseincluding a carbonitride of one or more kinds of metals selected from Group 4, Group 5, and Group 6 metals of the periodic table including at least Ti and a binder phasecontaining W and at least one kind of a metal selected from Co and Ni, wherein the binder phaseincludes a first binder phasein which a mass ratio of W to a total amount of Co and Ni (W/(Co+Ni)) is 0.8 or less and a second binder phasein which a mass ratio of W to a total amount of Co and Ni (W/(Co+Ni)) is 1.2 or more.
