In a layer including print elements and a layer below the layer including the print elements in a lamination direction of a print element substrate, the print elements and drive circuits are arranged point-symmetrically about the center of the substrate viewed from a side where discharge ports that allow the liquid to be discharged are open, and in an upper layer over the layer including the print elements in the lamination direction, functional elements are arranged in a direction of liquid flow in which the liquid flows from supply ports to collection ports while passing above the print elements.

A recording element board has a plurality of heat-generating resistor elements arranged in a row and each of the plurality of heat-generating resistor elements comprises a heat-generating resistor layer and first and second pairs of electrodes connected to the heat-generating resistor layer. The first and second pairs of electrodes contact the heat-generating resistor layer at the opposite surfaces thereof to each other. An element substrate for a liquid ejecting head includes a substrate, an element forming layer on the substrate, and a discharge port forming member formed of an insulating member on the element forming layer. The element forming layer includes an energy generating element configured to provide energy to a liquid for ejection. The discharge port forming member includes a discharge port forming surface having discharge ports through which the liquid is ejected and an exterior side surface positioned between the discharge port forming surface and the element forming layer. The exterior side surface has a first edge facing the element forming layer. A recording-element substrate includes a substrate including a base member, a pair of electrodes, a heating element formed of a thermal resistor layer between the electrodes, a surface on which an electroconductive film coating the heating element has been formed, and an insulating film between the heating element and the electroconductive film and a flow-path-forming member including walls forming a liquid flow path toward the heating element while being disposed on the substrate's surface side. The substrate includes an electric connecting portion in contact with the electroconductive film to connect the electroconductive film with the base member. The shortest distance between the electric connecting portion and a portion where an angle formed by the walls is 120 degrees or smaller when viewed from a direction orthogonal to the surface is smaller than that between a boundary between the electrodes and the heating element and the portion.

Recording-element substrate, recording head, and recording apparatus

When protective portions are independently provided for each energy generation element, a leakage current inspection between the protective portions and the energy generation elements cannot be performed at once. Therefore, there is a concern that the inspection in manufacturing a substrate for liquid ejection head requires time. Therefore, the substrate for liquid ejection head is manufactured by performing a leakage current inspection between a connecting portion that is electrically connected to plurality of protective portions and a terminal to which the plurality of energy generation elements are connected, and thereafter removing the connecting portion.

A print head is provided that well preserves ink characteristics upon printing by way of performing effective ink preliminary heating. The print head has heaters and ejection openings formed at locations corresponding to the heaters. Viewed from the side from which ink is ejected, a sub-heater is established in the print head between the ink supply port and the print elements so as to surround the ink supply port.

A liquid discharge head includes a heat generating element which generates heat energy used to discharge a liquid; a temperature detecting element which changes in output voltage in response to a change in the temperature of the heat generating element; an electrical power source line and a grounding line electrically connected to each other through the heat generating element to apply a current to the heat generating element; and a pair of lines for temperature detection electrically connected to each other through the temperature detecting element to apply a current to the temperature detecting element. A liquid-discharging recording head includes first and second substrates each having an energy generating element and a supply port, and a support member on which the substrates are arranged. An inkjet printhead substrate includes: a heat generating element configured to generate energy for ejecting ink; an electric wire electrically connecting the heat generating element and an electrode lead provided on a flexible film wiring substrate; a protecting film configured to protect the electric wire; an electrode pad to which the electrode lead is connected, the electrode pad being formed by providing an opening in the protecting film at a position above the electric wire; a region to which a sealing resin configured to protect an electrically connected portion of the electrode pad and the electrode lead is to be applied; and an ink-detecting electrode composed of a metal wire and formed at the region to which the sealing resin is to be applied. The metal wire has a smaller width than an opening provided in the protecting film from which the metal wire is exposed.

Inkjet printhead substrate, method for manufacturing inkjet printhead substrate, inkjet print head, and inkjet recording apparatus

An inkjet recording head includes a connection-state output circuit provided on the recording element substrate of a recording head, where the connection-state output circuit externally transmits data of the connection state of each of input signal ends. An output from the connection-state output circuit is activated when the same logic as that used when signals are pulled up and/or pulled down is used.

Even when a contact connection failure of electrical connection occurs between a recording head including a recording element substrate, and a recording apparatus, continuous driving of the same heat generating resistive element is suppressed. A substrate has M&#xd7;N heater elements divided into N blocks and time divisionally driven in units of the block, and signal lines for supplying M bits of signals for selecting elements to be driven in each block. The signal lines are divided into two groups, each extending toward the center of a heater element array from a start point at either end side of the array in the array direction, and being used to select M/2 elements closest to the end side of the array. In each groups, the M/2 bit signal lines are arranged so that the number of the signal lines is decremented as the distance from the start point increases, and that the remaining signal lines are shifted toward the array. A temperature sensor for the substrate is provided in an empty area produced at a position corresponding to the center of the array by the shift.

Substrate for inkjet head and inkjet head using the same

A print head, which ejects ink by using a method whereby a bubble generated by a heat generating element communicates with the air, and for which the occurrence of cavitation is deterred and the durability is improved, is provided. According to the print head, a bubble grows until the maximum volume is attained, and then, at a volume reduction step, communicates with the air. As a result, a liquid in a bubble generation chamber is ejected. An ejection port and the heat generating element are arranged so that the center of the ejection port is shifted away from the center of the heat generating element in a direction leading from an ink supply port to the ejection port.
