A method for recycling a used balloon catheter includes accepting a used balloon catheter. The balloon catheter includes a detector that detects a state value including at least a pressure generated in a pipe path formed within the balloon catheter and a storage that stores a result of detection of the state value by the detector. The method includes determining at least one of reusability of the used balloon catheter and a method of recycling the used balloon catheter, based on the result of detection stored in the storage of the used balloon catheter.

A balloon catheter includes a shaft and a balloon having one or more fold lines. The balloon is disposed outside the shaft, and the balloon includes one or more first regions and one or more second regions. The first region retains medicine on an outer surface of the balloon. The second region retains less medicine than the first region or retains no medicine.

A balloon catheter includes a shaft, and a balloon provided outside the shaft. A drug is provided on an outer surface of the balloon, and the balloon has at least a straight tube part. A change ratio of an outer diameter of the straight tube part, (D28&#x2212;D24)/D24, is 1.1% or less. D24 is the outer diameter of the straight tube part when an internal pressure of 2.43 MPa (24 atm) is applied, and D28 is the outer diameter of the straight tube part when an internal pressure of 2.84 MPa (28 atm) is applied.

Stent to be placed in the living body

In an expandable part positioned on the tip end side of the catheter, protruding parts are produced in specific regions when the expandable part is expanded through the difference in elasticity between two materials having a different elasticity to one another. The structure is made to be such that low-elasticity regions and high-elasticity regions are disposed in the expandable part, and when pressure is applied the high-elasticity regions expand more than the low-elasticity regions, thus becoming the protruding parts. Alternatively, the structure is made to be such that two materials having a different elasticity to one another are made into a two-layer structure of an inner layer and an outer layer, and voids are provided in the layer formed from the low-elasticity material, so that when pressure is applied, parts of the layer formed from the high-elasticity material corresponding to the void parts become the protruding parts.

The present invention is a balloon catheter used primarily in treatment and surgery for the purpose of dilating lesion sites such as strictures or blockages in passages in the human body. The balloon catheter of the present invention has a structure wherein a guide wire passing tubular member is deployed passing through the interior of the expansion body, and the outer surface of the tubular member and the expansion body are concentrically fused near the distal end of the catheter. This is a balloon catheter that is characterized by the fact that the Shore hardness of the material configuring the outermost surface of the tubular member is smaller than the Shore hardness of the material configuring the expansion body. It is therefore possible to flexibly adjust the tip portion formed by securing the expansion body and the guide wire passing tubular member.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a balloon catheter in which the inner tube is prevented from slackening after balloon inflation, improving the rewrapping of the balloon, discontinuity in the rigidity of the joined portions of the outer tube and the balloon is lessened, which prevents breakage, and the catheter advances through blood vessels better and passes more easily through narrow segments, preventing the catheter from &ldquo;accordioning&rdquo; and enhancing insertion force transmission. The balloon catheter pertaining to the present invention has a catheter shaft ( ) with a double-tube structure comprising an outer tube ( ) and an inner tube ( ), and a balloon ( ) disposed at the distal end portion of this catheter shaft ( ). A guide tube ( ) having an outside diameter smaller than the inside diameter of the outer tube ( ) and having an inside diameter larger than the outside diameter of the inner tube ( ) is disposed at least at the distal end portion of the outer tube ( ) so as to form a double-tube with the outer tube ( ), and the inner tube ( ) is not fixed, but passes through the interior of the guide tube ( ) in the axial direction.

Balloon catheter and method of production thereof

A balloon catheter is configured so as to comprise a catheter shaft formed by joining a proximal-side tubular member and a distal-side tubular member , an adapter member connected to the base end of the catheter shaft , and a balloon joined to the distal end of the catheter shaft . A metal coiled elastic member is deployed in the internal space in the adapter member , so that it can move toward the distal end. This coiled elastic body abuts on a ring-shaped wall part formed on the outer circumferential surface of the base end of an elastic force transmitting member and supports the elastic force transmitting member to the distal side. The leading end of a linear member that is one of the components of the elastic force transmitting member reaches to an internal space in the balloon and is bonded to the outer circumferential surface of a guide wire passing tube . Thus the elastic supporting force of the coiled elastic body is transmitted via the elastic force transmitting member to the distal-side sleeve part of the balloon , and tension is imparted to the balloon in the axial direction.
