The present invention provides a pyridine derivative represented by the following formula A or B, a dye produced by coupling the pyridine derivative A or B with an arbitray coupler and a thermal transfer sheet wherein use is made of the dye. In a thermal transfer process wherein use is made of a sublimable dye, the dye and the thermal transfer sheet according to the present invention can form a clear image having a sufficient density and an excellent light fastness. ##STR1##

Thermal transfer sheet

The present invention provides a thermal transfer image-receiving sheet capable of forming an image excellent in various types of fastness, particularly in light fastness, maintaining the effect of the ultraviolet absorber during the storage without deterioration and stably existing within a dye-receiving layer through the use of a thermal transfer process wherein use is made of a sublimable dye. The thermal transfer image-receiving sheet of the present invention includes a substrate sheet and a dye-receiving layer formed on at least one surface of the substrate sheet, wherein a layer containing an ultraviolet absorber is provided between the substrate sheet and the dye-receiving layer.

Thermal transfer image-receiving sheet

A thermal transfer sheet wherein a clear image having a sufficient density is formed in a thermal transfer process using a sublimable dye and wherein the formed image exhibits excellent fastnesses, particularly excellent light fastness. The thermal transfer sheet includes a base sheet and a dye-containing layer formed on one surface of the base sheet wherein a dye contained in the dye-containing layer includes a mixture of two or more specific dyes.

A receiving layer transfer sheet including a substrate film, and a transferable resin layer formed on one surface of the substrate film and composed of at least a dye receiving layer component and an adhesive layer component, wherein the dye receiving layer and adhesive layer components are formed on the substrate film in this order, if desired, with an additional layer component interleaved therebetween, and at least one layer component forming the transferable resin layer contains a foam and/or a foaming agent and the adhesive layer component includes a mixture of at least two heat-sensitive adhesive materials having varying softening temperatures. Additionally, a receiving layer transfer sheet including a substrate film, and a transferable resin layer formed on one surface of the substrate film and composed of at least a dye receiving layer component and an adhesive layer component, wherein the dye receiving layer and adhesive layer components are formed on the substrate film in this order, if desired, with an additional layer component interleaved therebetween, and the dye receiving layer component has a thickness in the range of 0.1 .mu.m to 1.0 .mu.m and contains a filler. Additionally, a receiving layer transfer sheet including a substrate film, and a transferable resin layer formed on one surface of the substrate film and composed of at least a dye receiving layer component and an adhesive layer component, wherein the dye receiving layer and adhesive layer components are formed on the substrate film in this order, if desired, with an additional layer component interleaved therebetween, and the total amount of solvent residues in the transferable resin layer is up to 200 mg/m.sup.2.

Receiving-layer transfer sheet

An object of the present invention is to provide a thermal transfer sheet wherein a clear image having a sufficient density is formed in a thermal transfer process using a sublimable dye and wherein the formed image exhibits excellent fastnesses, particularly excellent light fastness. The present invention is directed to a thermal transfer sheet comprising a base sheet and a dye-containing layer formed on the one surface of the base sheet wherein a dye included in the dye-containing layer comprises a mixture of two or more specific dyes.

A heat transfer image-receiving sheet including a substrate sheet and a dye-receiving layer provided on at least one surface thereof. The dye-receiving layer comprises a polyester resin and a polyurethane resin whose diol component comprises a compound having the following formula: ##STR1## wherein u, w, x, y and z respectively represent an integer of 0 to 10, provided that at least one of u, w, x, y and z is not 0, R is an alkylene group, a phenylene group or an alkylene oxide group.

Heat transfer image-receiving sheet

A thermal transfer image receiving sheet which can provide an image according to a thermal transfer printing process wherein use is made of a sublimable dye. The image has high density and sharpness and is excellent in various types of fastness, particularly fingerprint resistance, plasticizer resistance, etc. The thermal transfer image receiving sheet of the present invention includes a substrate sheet and a dye receiving layer formed on at least one surface of the substrate sheet, wherein the dye-receiving layer includes a dispersion of a dye-receiving resin dispersed in an aqueous medium.

A heat transfer image-receiving sheet including (i) a substrate sheet, and (ii) a dye-receiving layer including an ultraviolet-absorbing agent having a melting point of from 50.degree. C. to 150.degree. C. and provided on at least one surface of the substrate sheet.

The present invention provides a thermal transfer image-receiving sheet which can form an image excellent in the coloring density, sharpness and various types of fastness, particularly durability such as light fastness, fingerprint resistance and plasticizer resistance according to a thermal transfer printing process wherein use is made of a sublimable dye, and can be easily produced by conventional coating equipment through the use of a non-halogenated hydrocarbon solvent, such as a ketone solvent, a toluene solvent or a mixture thereof. A first embodiment of the invention is directed to a thermal transfer image-receiving sheet including a substrate sheet and a dye-receiving layer formed on at least one surface of the substrate sheet, wherein the dye-receiving layer includes a random copolycarbonate resin having structural units represented by the following general formulae (1) and (2), the molar ratio of the structural unit represented by the general formula (1) to the structural unit represented by the general formula (2) being 30:70 to 70:30 ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 to R.sup.8 stand for hydrogen, a halogen or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, A stands for a straight-chain, branched or cyclic alkylidene group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, an aryl-substituted alkylidene group, an aryl group or a sulfonyl group and B stands for an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom.
