[Solution] The red emitting nitride fluorescent material of the present invention is represented by Formula (1):SrAlSiN:Eu&#x2003;&#x2003;(1)where x is a numerical value of greater than 0 to less than 1.

This invention is intended to provide vacuum ultraviolet excited green phosphor materials that include terbium, gadolinium-doped rare-earth aluminum scandium borate represented by the following general formula: (YGdTb)AlSc(BO)(0&#x2266;x&#x2266;0.5, 0&#x3c;y&#x3c;0.5, 0&#x3c;z&#x2266;3). The phosphor materials of this invention can be used for light-emitting devices. Using the phosphor materials in combination with blue phosphor materials and red phosphor materials enables the formation of white emitting device.

A vacuum ultraviolet-excited phosphor is composed of a gadolinium-activated rare-earth aluminum-scandium borate that is represented by a general formula (YGd)AlSc(BO)(where 0&#x3c;x&#x2266;1, 0&#x3c;y&#x2266;3). This vacuum ultraviolet-excited phosphor, when irradiated by vacuum ultraviolet light having a wavelength of 200 nm or less, can produce ultraviolet light having wavelength in the range from 312 nm to 315 nm with higher efficiency and stronger emitted intensity, and can obtain a higher areal intensity ratio than a phosphor of the prior art.

The present invention achieves improvement of the color reproducibility, color rendering properties and light emitting efficiency of a white light emitting diode. The present invention is a red fluorescent material composed of a europium doped lithium lanthanum niobate represented by a general formula of LiLaEuNbO(0&#x3c;x&#x2266;1). The red fluorescent material can efficiently converts light in the light emission wavelength range from 350 to 410 nm of an ultraviolet light emitting diode into red light, and can efficiently converts blue light at 465 nm and green light at 538 nm into red light.
