An optical connector plug to be inserted to an adapter, is arranged such that a pair of engaging parts for expanding an elastic locking piece provided on a side of the adapter by a taper part and locking it with a step part is provided on a tip part of a plug frame which is a body of the plug; a locking releasing piece movable along an insertion-extraction direction is provided between the pair of engaging parts; a taper part for releasing a locking action of the elastic locking piece when extracting the plug is provided at a rear end of the locking releasing piece; and the taper part of the engaging parts has such a shape that the connecting stress is not lowered before being locked when inserting the plug.

An optical connector () of the present invention includes housing position correction means for correcting displacement of relative positions between plug and jack housings (); housing connection means () which engage with each other to connect the plug and jack housings () to each other so that a coupling state between first and second optical fibers () can be maintained; connection release means () capable of releasing the connected state by the housing connection means (); and frame position correction means for correcting displacement of relative positions between a frame () of an optical plug () and a connection block () of an optical jack ().

Optical connector

A receptacle () detachably accommodating a connector plug () connected to optical fibers () is rotatably supported by a shaft () provided in an installation table (). There is provided an optical connector device which prevents leakage of light until right before connectors are connected to each other and is small-sized by a reduction in space for housing shutters. The optical connector device is an optical connector device comprising a first optical connector and a second optical connector. When shutters for shutting out light from the optical connectors are collided with each other, the shutters move to positions where they do not shut out the light. Therefore, the first optical connector and the second optical connector are connected to each other. After moving, the shutter of the first optical connector and the shutter of the second optical connector are inserted into the second optical connector while remaining contacting each other.

Optical connector having shielding mechanism

An optical functioning component has a tubular housing with a front end side having substantially the same shape as that of a front end of a removable plug housing of an optical connector plug. A rear end side of the tubular housing has a shape configured for connection to the optical connector plug when the plug housing is removed from the optical connector plug. A ferrule is provided on the front end side of the tubular housing and has a mechanism capable of attenuating, cutting-off, reflecting or absorbing a specific wavelength of light. An optical connection sleeve is connected to an end of the ferrule. A frame supports the ferrule and the optical connection sleeve and is mounted in the tubular housing for undergoing axial movement therein by a preselected amount.

Optical functioning component and optical connector having optical functioning component

An optical interconnection apparatus which is very easy to handle and does not cause excessive bending and breakage of the optical fibers when connecting with other optical apparatus is provided. The optical interconnection apparatus includes a base sheet and plural optical fibers two-dimensionally routed on the base sheet via an adhesive layer. The optical fibers form a routing pattern having at least a straight part, a crossing part, a curved part or a fiber pitch changing part. The apparatus further includes another base sheet this is adhered on the said routed optical fibers. The two base sheets have a different sizes so that one of the base sheets does not exist in the vicinity of the edge of the other base sheet at which the optical fibers are outwardly extended.

Optical interconnection apparatus

An optical connector has a ferrule comprises of a cylindrical body for supporting an optical fiber, and a flange member having an end portion connected to a first end of the cylindrical body and a flange part projecting from the end portion. A holding member supports the ferrule and has an engaging part. A rotation positioning part is formed in the flange part of the flange member for positioning the flange part relative to the holding member to provide a first clearance between the rotation positioning part and the engaging part of the holding member for restricting rotation of the ferrule about the fiber optical axis relative to the holding member. A rotation allowing part is formed in the flange part of the flange member and spaced from the engaging part of the holding member to provide a second clearance therebetween greater than the first clearance for allowing rotational movement of the ferrule so as to permit the ferrule to incline in a direction transverse to an axis of the optical connector.

In order to provide a ferrule for an optical-fiber connector used for good organization of an optical communication network, the ferrule for an optical-fiber connector is made of a crystallized glass having a composition which consists essentially of, by weight percent, 60-70% of SiO,, 16-25% of Al,O,, 1.5-3% of Li,O, 0.5-2.5% of MgO, 1.3-4.5% of TiO,, 0.5-3% of ZrO,, 2-6.5% of TiO,&plus;ZrO,, 1-5.5% of K,O, 0-7% of ZnO, and 0-3% of BaO. The crystallized glass includes 30-70 volume % precipitation of &bgr;-spodumene solid solution or &bgr;-quartz solid solution having an average grain size not greater than 2 &mgr;m. In addition, the crystallized glass has a bend strength of 200 MPa or more and a thermal expansion coefficient of &minus;10&tilde;50&times;10,/&deg; C. at a temperature between &minus;50 and 150&deg; C.

Ferrule for optical-fiber connector

An optical receptacle includes a housing having a base end and a nose end. From the base end of the housing is fitted the first ferrule. A split sleeve is provided in the housing. In the split sleeve is fitted the second ferrule of an optical fiber connector plug to be connected to the nose base side of the housing so that the first and second ferrules are aligned with each other. At the base end of the housing are provided first hook portions for holding the first ferrule while at the nose end are provided a fitting portion for fitting an optical fiber connector and second hook portions for holding the optical fiber connector plug in the fitting position thereof. The housing includes an inner part and an outer part having fixed therein the inner part. The inner part is composed of the first and second hook portions integrally molded. The outer part holds the optical fiber connector plug and hold therein the inner part fixedly. The optical receptacle has a simplified structure without adverse affect on the function of the device, thus achieving down-sizing and reduction in weight.

Optical receptacle and housing therefor

Disclosed are optical fibers for optical attenuation comprising a core and a cladding, wherein the cladding comprises two or more parts different from each other in their refractive indices and/or the attenuating dopant existence. By using the optical fibers for optical attenuation of the present invention, an optical attenuator which can effectively reduce the effect of cladding mode upon coupling of optical fibers and is excellent in characteristic stability can be manufactured at a low cost.

Optical fibers for optical attenuation

When plug is fitted to adapter, optical fiber is inserted to an alignment hole for the optical fiber. By providing a taper at the entrance thereof, even if the tip of the optical fiber is deviated from the central position, the deviation is absorbed to make it possible for the optical fiber to be inserted smoothly. When two plugs is fitted to adapter, the tip of one optical fiber is confronted with the other one in the alignment hole, and excessive length L.sub.1 -L.sub.2 is pushed into the two optical fiber-bending spaces with a suitable distribution, thus the optical fiber buckles therein. The end face of the optical fiber is subjected to flat surface-polishing, removal of ripples after being cleaved, or chamfer grinding after being cleaved. The buckling portion of the optical fiber is coated with carbon or the like.

To realize an optical fiber connector coupled or decoupled by simple insertion and removal operation without applying ferrule connecting force to other elements (package board or back panel), the optical connector comprises a first housing (33); a second housing (34); a third housing (36) slidably housed within the second housing; a first engage mechanism (37, 38) provided between the second and third housings, for engaging these two housings when the first and third housings are not coupled; a second engage mechanism (39, 40) provided between the first and third housings, for engaging these two housings when the first housing is coupled to second and third housings; a first release member (41) provided for the first housings, for releasing the first engage mechanism when the third housing is engaged to the first housing; and a second release member (42) provided for the second housing, for releasing the second engage mechanism when the second housing is coupled to the third housing or the first housing is decoupled from the second and third housings. Further, to allow the optical connector to be preferably applicable to a plug-in connector with the smallest possible dimensions and with the highest possible package density, a novel connector floating structure, a novel slidable ferrule supporting structure, a strong optical plug connecting mechanism, a reliable optical plug or jack insertion structure, a cleanable and replaceable connector jack, etc. are also disclosed.
