A method for controlling an engine in response to an increase in a load on the engine is disclosed. The engine includes a cylinder with a piston slidably disposed therein between a top dead center position and a bottom dead center position. The cylinder and the piston define a combustion chamber. The method includes initiating a first injection event and a second injection event. The first injection event includes introducing a first predetermined quantity of fuel into the combustion chamber at least 5 degrees before the piston reaches the top dead center position. The second injection event includes introducing a second predetermined quantity of fuel into the combustion chamber not earlier than 30 degrees after the piston moves away from the top dead center position.

Engine control system and method

An internal combustion engine having an exhaust log structure onto which a plurality of turbochargers is connected, each turbocharger having a turbine connected to the exhaust log structure and having an inlet fluidly connectable to a respective one of the plurality of outlet ports, an exhaust valve disposed at a turbine outlet such that the flow of exhaust gas out of the turbine is fluidly blocked, and an actuator associated with the exhaust valve and operating to move the exhaust valve from a closed position to an open position and vice versa. An electronic controller provides a command to the actuator to move the exhaust valve between the open and closed positions and is programmed to selectively open two one or more exhaust valves based on an operating condition of the engine.

Inline turbocharger arrangement and method

An engine control system is structured for operating a turbocharged engine system and includes an electronic control unit. The electronic control unit is structured to switch the engine system from operation in a parasitically loaded mode where fuel pressurized by a fuel pump is dumped to a low pressure space, to operation in a second mode, where an engine load increase is detected. Turbocharger lag in the engine system is limited during increasing the engine load by way of exhaust energy produced in response to the parasitic loading. Related methodology is disclosed.

Control system for turbocharged engine system and operating method for same

A control system for a power source is disclosed. The control system includes a first sensor module and a second sensor module to generate signals indicative of an ambient condition of the power source and an operating parameter of an engine of the power source, respectively. The control system further includes a controller that receives signals indicative of the ambient condition and the engine operating parameter and determines a first power output based on the ambient condition and a second power output based on the engine operating parameter. A final power output is further determined based on the first and second power outputs, which is further compared with a predetermined power output of the engine. A power conversion device that is coupled to the engine is further controlled to regulate a power output of the power source based on the comparison between the final and predetermined power outputs.

System and method for controlling power output of a power source

There is disclosed a method of regenerating at least one aftertreatment device in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine by changing a calibration of the exhaust gas recirculation system with the engine to increase temperature of exhaust gas provided to the at least one aftertreatment device, and further incrementally changing the calibration to obtain an exhaust gas temperature within a target regeneration temperature range.
