Methods, systems, and apparatus for circuit breakers with integrated safety, control, monitoring, and protection features. In one aspect, a circuit breaker includes an input and an output, a switch coupled between the input and output, a communications device configured to communicate on a data communications network, and a control system coupled to the switch and the communications device, wherein the control system is configured to perform operations including opening the switch as a consequence of detecting an overcurrent condition in a circuit downstream from the circuit breaker, opening and closing the switch based on one or more instructions received by the communications device from the data communications network, and monitoring the power consumption of the circuit downstream from the circuit breaker.

Circuit breakers with integrated safety, control, monitoring, and protection features

Circuit breaker panels for use in, e.g., residential and light commercial applications. The circuit breaker panels are configured to perform conventional safety functions and are also configured for remote control and monitoring. The circuit breaker panels can be constructed with remote control and monitoring capability, and circuit breaker panels lacking remote control and monitoring capability can be augmented to include remote control and monitoring capability.

Integrated circuit breaker panels

This specification describes axial relays. One of the axial relays includes first and second adapters positioned along an axis defining an axial direction, a contact extending along the axial direction between the first adapter and the second adapter, and a driver configured to move the contact relative to at least one of the first and second adapters between a first position and a second position by moving the contact along the axial direction or rotating the contact around the axial direction, such that a first end of the contact is conductively coupled to the first adapter and a second end of the contact is conductively coupled to the second adapter when the contact is at the first position, and the first adapter is conductively decoupled from the first end of the first adapter when the contact is at the second position.

Axial relay

A circuit breaker system includes a circuit breaker that includes an electrical input for a power circuit and positioned on a first holder in a housing of the circuit breaker system; a cooling device positioned on a second holder adjacent to the first holder in the housing, the cooling device configured to dissipate heat generated by the circuit breaker; and a control system coupled to the circuit breaker and the cooling device, the control system configured to determine a temperature condition of the circuit breaker and control the cooling device based at least in part on the determined temperature condition.

Cooling electrical equipment

A high voltage (HV) interface housing is provided that includes an assembly of levers within the housing that detect whether or not the HV lines are coupled to the interface housing. If the HV lines are not in place, the lever assembly prevents the interface cover from being fully installed onto the interface housing, thereby preventing the HV interlock loop switch from being closed. As a result, when the HV cables are not in place, the HV interlock loop switch prevents power from being applied to the HV circuit. If, however, the HV lines are properly positioned within the interface housing, the levers of the lever assembly automatically retract, thus allowing the interface cover to be fully installed onto the interface housing. In this state, the interface cover closes the HV interlock loop switch, thus closing the HV interlock loop and allowing power to be applied to the HV circuit.

Electrical interface interlock system

An electronic device enclosure configured to shield against electromagnetic interference (EMI). The electronic device enclosure includes an electronic device-enclosure base and at least one laterally disposed blunt boss. The electronic device-enclosure base includes a bottom, and sides and attached to the bottom in a boxlike configuration. The laterally disposed blunt boss is configured so as to be disposed between, and to couple electrically, a side of the electronic device-enclosure base and a vertical flange of an electronic device-enclosure cover. The electronic device-enclosure base and the electronic device-enclosure cover are configurable with respect to said laterally disposed blunt boss to shield an interior space enclosed by the electronic device-enclosure base and the electronic device-enclosure cover against EMI at a resonant frequency of a slot of the electronic device enclosure. A hard-disk drive including a disk enclosure configured to shield against EMI and a method for assembling the hard-disk drive are also provided.

Electronic device enclosure configured to shield against electromagnetic interference

Approaches for a testing apparatus for evaluating a cover of a hard-disk drive. The testing apparatus may detect whether the cover has a defect that prevents the cover from being sufficiently airtight. The testing apparatus includes a base structure that comprises a concave recess shaped to receive the cover to be tested. When the cover is disposed within the concave recess, the cover forms a first chamber in the concave recess between the cover and the base structure. The testing apparatus also includes a removable lid. When the removable lid covers the concave recess with the cover disposed therein, the removable lid forms a second chamber in the concave recess between the cover, the base structure, and the removable lid. The testing apparatus also includes a means for introducing helium gas to one of the chambers and a means for detecting how much helium gas leaks from that chamber.

Approaches for detecting leaks in a hard-disk drive (HDD) cover

Approaches for implementing a conductive gasket comprising carbon nanotubes for deployment within a sensitive environment, such as an environment containing equipment whose operation may be affected by airborne particles or electromagnetic energy. For example, a hard-disk drive (HDD) comprises an enclosure that is formed by coupling a first component, such as a cover, to a second component, such as a base, using one or more gaskets. The one or more gaskets may be constructed using a material that includes carbon nanotubes. The composition of the material used to construct the gaskets may be selected to achieve a desired electromagnetic conductivity for the gaskets. In this way, the gaskets of the enclosure of the HDD do not render the enclosure vulnerable to external electromagnetic energy and are constructed in a manner that does not introduce any harmful airborne contaminants within the protective enclosure of the HDD.

Use of carbon nanotubes to form conductive gaskets deployed in sensitive environments

A hard disk drive enclosure with conductive paths. A base plate comprising an electrically conductive material with at least one contact surface that allows for an electrically conductive path, wherein the at least one contact surface has a substantially flat surface. A cover comprising an electrically conductive material comprising at least one tab with a substantially flat surface for contacting the at least one contact surface of the base plate, wherein the at least one tab contacts the at least one contact surface of the base plate with a force and forms an electrically conductive path between the cover and the based plate, and wherein the at least one tab deforms upon the contact with the at least one contact surface of the base plate with the force.

Conductive paths in a hard disk drive enclosure

An airflow diverter in a hard disk drive system. A top portion configured to couple with a top housing of the disk drive system. A thickness configured to create a top clearance between the diverter and a top actuator arm of the disk drive system wherein the top clearance approximates a bottom clearance between a bottom housing of the disk drive system and a bottom actuator arm of the disk drive system. At least one surface configured to divert the airflow in the disk drive system during the operation of the disk drive system.
