An intervertebral spacer implant () is provided with a retention mechanism () to help alleviate expulsion and movement of the implant when placed in the spine while providing an implant that is easier to insert in the spine. In one embodiment the retention mechanism comprises a keel on at least one of the inferior or superior faces of the spacer implant preferably extending in an anterior-posterior direction. In another embodiment the implant comprises a spacer () and a plate (), the plate comprising a supplemental or alternative retention mechanism. In one embodiment the retention mechanism comprises one or more holes () in the anterior end of the plate. In yet another embodiment, the retention mechanism comprises one or more blades that are in a first position when inserted and are preferably rotated to a second position that engages the superior and inferior vertebrae.

A dual modality system includes a flexible chassis including a durable energy subsystem and a replaceable thermal subsystem. An economical dual modality system can be manufactured and used in a method including the steps of assembling a system including a durable energy subsystem and a replaceable thermal subsystem, activating the replaceable thermal subsystem, attaching the system to a desired treatment area of a user's body, and activating the durable energy subsystem. The durable energy subsystem is arranged and configured to deliver energy, and the replaceable thermal subsystem is arranged and configured to be coupled to the durable energy subsystem arranged and configured to deliver thermal energy. The replaceable thermal subsystem delivers thermal energy to the desired treatment area at a predetermined temperature range for at least 30 minutes, and the durable energy subsystem delivers energy from the group consisting of non-visible light electromagnetic radiation, visible light radiation, electromagnetic field, microcurrent, electrical stimulation, iontophoresis, sonophoresis and combinations thereof independently of the thermal energy.

The present invention is directed to a low profile intervertebral implant for implantation in an intervertebral disc space in-between adjacent vertebral bodies. The intervertebral implant includes a plate preferably coupled to a spacer. The plate is preferably formed from a first material and the spacer is preferably formed from a second material, the first material being different from the second material. The plate is preferably sized and configured so that the plate does not extend beyond the perimeter of the spacer. In this manner, the plate preferably does not increase the height profile of the spacer and the plate may be implanted within the intervertebral disc space in conjunction with the spacer.

A device for determining a physiological property of a body includes an insulating support having a compliant contact surface with a conductive element to contact the body. A mounting fixture disposed over a mounting surface of the support removably holds a rigid sensor spaced apart from the body and coupled to the conductive element to determine the physiological property via that element. A method for enabling a physiological parameter to be measured without direct contact between an active device and the body includes arranging a conductive element over an inner surface of an insulating circumferential band. A sensor with the active device is attached to the exterior of the band and thus coupled to the element. A system includes the sensor having a mounting connector, and sensor carriers with respective supports, mounting fixtures, and conductive elements. The sensor mounted on a carrier determines the property via the respective conductive element.

A biomedical sensor has conducting elements disposed at least partly over a skin-facing surface. A sensing element detects a signal representative of a physiological parameter of a body using the conducting elements. A storage device stores a physiological model. A processor determines sensor placement quality by comparing the signal to the model and operates an indicator to indicate the determined quality. A method of measuring using the sensor includes computing a measurement acceptance criterion using numerous measurements, determining whether a subsequent test measurement corresponds to the measurement acceptance criterion obtained from the computing step, and indicating the results via the indicator. A system for measuring a physiological property of the body includes the sensor, a user interface device to receive measurements from the sensor, and a processor associated with the user interface device and configured to provide feedback if the measurement does not meet a selected acceptance criterion.

Methods, systems, and devices for optimal positioning of sensors

Described is drug infusion device and lineset for delivering medication. The novel pump and lineset described herein eliminate the ability of the pump and lineset from being primed when the cartridge reservoir is in fluid communication with the drug-delivering cannula, through which medication is delivered, is inserted into the skin of a patient. The system and method of the invention include a lineset having a plurality of electrical leads for allowing electrical communication between the infusion pump and the infusion set and for allowing the pump to determine whether the lineset is connected to the infusion set when a priming operation is initiated.
