A multi-step animation sequence for smoothly transitioning from a map view to a panorama view of a specified location is disclosed. An orientation overlay can be displayed on the panorama, showing a direction and angular extent of the field of view of the panorama. An initial specified location and a current location of the panorama can also be displayed on the orientation overlay. A navigable placeholder panorama to be displayed in place of a panorama at the specified location when panorama data is not available is disclosed. A perspective view of a street name annotation can be laid on the surface of a street in the panorama.

This is directed to a preview application for displaying several documents simultaneously in a single window, where the several documents are displayed as books. To view the pages of a document, the preview application can open the book and display the pages of the document (e.g., in a one or two-dimensional array). A user can also search for particular terms within the several documents. In response to a search, the preview application can filter the pages of the several documents and only display those pages that include the search terms. The displayed pages can be ordered in any suitable manner, including for example by search rank.

Previewing different types of documents

In accordance with some embodiments, a portable electronic device with a touch screen display displays a map in an untracked mode of a mapping application. The device receives location information for the device, and detects a first activation of a mapping mode user interface element. In response, the device enters a tracked mode of the mapping application. While in the tracked mode of the mapping application, the device detects a second activation of the mapping mode user interface element and, in response, enters a heading mode of the mapping application. While in the heading mode of the mapping application, the device detects a finger scrolling gesture and, in response, the device enters the tracked mode when the finger scrolling gesture moves the map less than a predefined amount or the device enters the untracked mode when the finger scrolling gesture moves the map greater than the predefined amount.
