An information handling apparatus, and a method, having a plurality of wireless communication systems is disclosed. The apparatus can include three radio-frequency communication components. In another embodiment, the device can include four wireless communication systems. In one embodiment, the communication systems can communicate simultaneously.

Numerous features and improvements currently related to a portable computing and data collection system are presented. It will be appreciated, however, that although the features disclosed herein are disclosed in connection with a small, portable hand-held system, these features can also be used singly or in combination with a variety of other computing or battery powered devices. Disclosed features include an improved battery pack containing a unique battery temperature-based sensing system, a modular radio system having an antenna board, a radio frame designed to accept any of a variety of different radio boards, a sealed hand-held personal computing system, a light transmissive window that also serves as a door providing access to the interior of the device, and a unique compact flash card implementation. Embodiments containing various combinations and relations of these features in a portable computing system are also disclosed.

A method and apparatus for permitting a base housing to support a plurality of different product configurations. Some of the configurations include different types of optical indicia readers. The base housing has a reading portal capable of receiving a window frame. The window frame is designed for use with a specific type of optical indicia reading component. The invention permits efficient manufacturing of the housing prior to determining which type of optical indicia reader the housing will house.

Versatile window system for information gathering systems

In the system, a first frame and an electronic subsystem cooperate to form at least a partial Faraday cage about an electronic component of the electronic subsystem, and a second frame and a different electronic subsystem cooperate to form at least a partial Faraday cage about an electronic component of that electronic subsystem.

The present invention provides a durable, reliable, and ergonomic computing system that is highly customizable and ungradable. Product flexibility and ease of customization is provided by the ability to employ a wide range of peripherals and accessories. In one embodiment, a docking unit is provided that provides additional functionality and flexibility. Flexibility is further enhanced by a CPU upgrade path as well as easily ungradable main system memory and hard disk drive. In one embodiment, a T-shaped main logic board (MLB) is provided as is a method of positioning or arranging the internal components of a portable computer by employing the same. In this manner, the size and number of components that may be housed internally within the computer are greater than would be possible with a conventional generally rectangular main logic board. In another aspect, the present invention relates to a shock mounting system for a portable computer having a flat panel display, comprising a shock absorbing member encasing the perimeter of the flat panel display and a metal, e.g., magnesium alloy, frame mounted within the interior compartment retaining the shock absorbing member. In a related embodiment, the metal frame forms at least a portion of the peripheral walls housing the computer.

Ruggedized hand held computer

A portable electronic printing system including power supply assembly is disclosed. The printing system includes a printer comprising a printer housing having first and second ends, a handle disposed at the first end of the housing for allowing a user to tote the portable electronic printing system, and a power supply foot disposed at the second end of the housing. The power supply foot includes a power supply circuit for supplying power received from an external power source to the printing system. The power supply assembly includes a sidewall and a bracket for supporting a first electronic device and for sinking heat generated by the first electronic device away from the first electronic device. The bracket is coupled to the sidewall such that heat received by the bracket from the first electronic device is transferred to the sidewall. A second electronic device is mounted to the bracket such that the bracket absorbs vibrational energy applied to the second electronic device.
