An apparatus () and method for measuring an extract () released from a product sample () in vitro. The apparatus () comprising an in vitro environment which simulates an in vivo environment. The apparatus () contains a product sample () with the product sample () exposed to the in vitro environment. An extract () is produced from the product sample () when the product sample () is subjected to the in vitro environment. The extract () is analyzed to determine the amount of at least one element in the extract and the rate of release of at least one element in the product sample ().
