The self-contained drive axle assembly () can include an electric motor () for propelling the motor vehicle mounted coaxial with and sheathing a first portion of the drive axle assembly () and a disconnect clutch () mounted coaxial with and sheathing a second portion of the drive axle assembly () for selectively connecting powered rotation between the electric motor () and a gear box (). The drive axle assembly () can include the gear box () having at least one of a transmission () and a power take off unit () mounted coaxial with and sheathing a third portion of the drive axle assembly () for transferring powered rotation to a pair of wheels () through the drive axle assembly ().

Self-contained electric axle for all-wheel drive

A coupling device system for use in a motor vehicle is provided including a coupling device and a memory chip. The coupling device has an input member, an output member, and at least one modulating clutch assembly selectively coupling the input member to the output member. The modulating clutch assembly includes an electrical clutch operator and clutch plates. The clutch plates include at least one first clutch plate coupled to the input member and at least one second clutch plate coupled to the output member. The second clutch plate is disposed adjacent the first clutch plate. The memory chip is integrated with the coupling device and is configured to store data related to a measured characteristic of the coupling device. The memory chip is also configured to communicate with a vehicle controller. A method of providing a calibration curve of the coupling device to the vehicle controller is also disclosed.

A pulse width modulated solenoid control valve is described, wherein the valve includes a polymer fluid control body. The body includes a segmented fluid flow path for providing strength to the fluid control body assembly. Stand off ribs are provided to improve assembly into a control manifold. A casing forms an integral flux tube. A tapered push rod is used to reduce flux shorting.

A control module for a vehicle transmission. The control module includes an electronic transmission control unit attached to a cooling plate. Control solenoids are attached to the cooling plate. The cooling plate is operably secured over a &ldquo;worm trail&rdquo; manifold in a transmission for controlling the transmission.
