A rotor assembly for an electric motor includes a rotor core that is fabricated from a plurality of stacked laminations. The rotor core has a plurality of arcuately arranged, axially extending magnet receiving slots. The rotor core includes a plurality of magnets received in respective ones of the magnet receiving slots. The laminations include radially extending deflectable magnet retaining tabs that extend into the magnet receiving slots. The magnet retaining tabs engage and are deflected by a corresponding one of the magnets to exert a reactive force against the magnets.

A spoked rotor is rotatable about an axis. The rotor includes a core. The core includes a plurality of pole segments arranged arcuately about the axis. The rotor includes a plurality of arcuately arranged magnets alternating arcuately with the pole segments, such that each of the magnets is at least in part interposed between a pair of adjacent pole segments. Each of the magnets includes a curved section extending arcuately between radially inner and outer curved section ends. An effective rotor pole location is defined on each of the pole segments. Each of the pole segments has an end opposite the effective rotor pole location. A center point is defined at the pole segment end. Each of the effective rotor pole locations is arcuately offset from a corresponding one of the center points by between about five tenths (0.5) rotor poles and about two (2.0) rotor poles.

A dual motor system includes a first motor providing a lower speed range and a second motor providing a higher speed range, wherein the motors are coaxially arranged and aligned on and drive a common shaft, and a motor control system controlling the speed of the first motor and engaging the second motor as needed. The first motor is a variable speed motor providing a lower two-thirds of a full speed range, and the second motor is an induction motor providing the upper one-third in the form of one or more discrete fixed speeds. The system may include a transformer including a first winding tap which provides a first higher speed, and a second winding tap which provides a second higher speed. The system may also include a flow control system for automatically controlling the speed of the motors for particular applications, such as flow control in a pool.

Dual motor system

A set of interchangeably pairable end caps is provided for electrically insulating a variety of stator cores having differing axial stack heights. Each pair of end caps cooperatively defines a generally radially projecting, generally axially extending wire barrier including axially opposed ends. Each of the ends forms a respective rounded winding ramp configured to smoothly guide wiring into a wire trough in part defined by the wire barrier.

A blower motor is provided for use in a machine. The motor includes a stator and a rotor rotatable about an axis. The stator includes a generally toroidal core, a first-main winding, and an auxiliary winding that is electrically out of phase with the first-main winding. The first-main winding and the auxiliary winding are both full pitch windings.

An induction motor assembly includes a motor. The motor includes a rotor rotatable about a rotor axis, and a stator at least substantially circumscribing the rotor. The stator includes a generally toroidal core. The core includes a generally circumferential yoke and a plurality of arcuately spaced apart teeth extending radially inwardly from the yoke. The tooth length is at least three (3) times the yoke thickness.

A motor assembly includes a stator, a rotor rotatable about an axis, and a housing at least in part defining a motor chamber. The stator and the rotor at least in part are received within the motor chamber. The housing includes a first housing portion and a second housing portion. The housing portions engage one another along an interface. The interface restricts ingress of contaminants therethrough into the motor chamber. The housing portions cooperatively define a nested portion that at least in part defines the interface. The nested portion includes an arcuately extending projection and an arcuately extending receiver. The receiver defines an arcuately extending receiving channel. The projection is at least in part received within the receiving channel.

A rotor is provided for use in an electric motor. The rotor is rotatable about an axis. The rotor includes a core including a plurality of arcuately arranged pole segments arranged arcuately the axis. The rotor further includes a plurality of arcuately arranged magnets alternating with the pole segments, such that each of the magnets is at least in part interposed between a pair of adjacent pole segments. Still further, the rotor includes a support structure at least in part supporting the pole segments. The core further includes a plurality of bridges. Each of the bridges extends between and interconnects a corresponding one of the pole segments to the support structure. Each of the bridges includes a plurality of axially spaced apart bridge segments.

A rotor includes a plurality of arcuately arranged magnets and a core including a plurality of arcuately arranged pole segments alternating with the magnets, such that each of the magnets is at least in part interposed between adjacent pole segments. The pole segments at least in part cooperatively present an annular core face at least in part defining a core envelope. Each of the pole segments includes a main body and a pair of ears. The main body presents a body face extending concentrically with the axis, disposed along the envelope, and presenting a pair of arcuately spaced apart body edges. The ears each extend generally arcuately outwardly from a corresponding body edge and present a substantially flat ear face extending directly from the body edge. Each of the ear faces is disposed radially inside the envelope.

An electric motor comprising a rotor rotatable about a rotor axis and a stator at least substantially circumscribing the rotor is provided. The stator includes a generally toroidal core including a plurality of arcuately spaced apart, radially inwardly extending teeth. Each of the teeth presents a radially innermost face that extends along a curved contour. A portion of the contour has a radius of curvature that corresponds to a circle having a center. The center is radially offset from the rotor axis. Furthermore, each of the teeth includes a radially extending arm having an end and a crown extending relative to the end. The crown presents a pair of arcuately spaced apart endmost tips, each of which has a rotor-facing side. The rotor-facing side includes a tapered portion that turns away from the rotor.

Motor having reduced cogging torque

An electric motor includes a stator and a rotor. The stator has a plurality of low speed windings and a plurality of separate high speed windings. A first type of thermal overload protector is coupled with at least one of the low speed windings and a second type of thermal overload protector is coupled with at least one of the high speed windings.
