Introduced here are retinal cameras having one or more optical components whose position can be modified so that the left and right eyes can be imaged during a single imaging operation. Collectively, the optical component(s) may be referred to as an 'optical assembly.' An optical assembly can include the objective lens, lens tube, and other optical components such as mirror(s), light source(s), capturing medium(s), etc. An optical assembly of a retinal camera may be movable between a first position and a second position along an arcuate path. By moving the optical assembly between the first and second positions along the arcuate path, the retinal camera can align the lens tube with the left and right eyes of an individual while clearing her nose. Thus, the retinal camera may generate images of the left and right eyes during an imaging procedure without requiring that the individual move her head.

Introduced here are approaches to ensuring that digital images generated during diagnostic sessions are properly associated with the appropriate patients. By implementing these approaches, a diagnostic platform can minimize the time needed to manually input information prior to a diagnostic session and improve the accuracy of this information.

Introduced here are retinal cameras having optical stops whose size and/or position can be modified to increase the size of the space in which an eye can move while being imaged. In some embodiments, an optical stop is mechanically moved to recover retinal image quality as the subject shifts their eye. In some embodiments, an optical stop is digitally created using a pixelated liquid crystal display (LCD) layer having multiple pixels that are individually controllably. In some embodiments, multiple non-pixelated LCD layers are connected to one another to form a variable transmission stack, and each LCD layer within the variable transmission stack may be offset from the other LCD layers. In such embodiments, the optical stop can be moved by changing which LCD layer is active at a given point in time.

The technology described herein is directed to a fundus camera and, more specifically, to a fundus camera having a display that projects active visual alignment stimuli onto an eye of an examinee via one or more components of an optimal assembly. The active visual alignment stimuli are dynamically adjusted to guide an examinee toward optical alignment for fundus imaging.

A medication dispenser apparatus is described. The apparatus includes a container configured to hold medication, a display interface, and a controller configured to perform, in sequence, a learning operation in which the controller learns a medication dispensing regimen of the container, a validation operation in which the controller validates the learned medication dispensing regimen; and a notification operation in which the controller provides on the display interface a status of use of the container for medication dispensing in relation to the learned medication dispensing regimen.

In some embodiments, readily understandable information displays are provided to help an operator guide an eye of a subject into an eyebox of a retinal imaging system. In some embodiments, a three-dimensional position of the eye with respect to the retinal imaging system is determined, and an interface that includes a three-dimensional representation of the position of the eye with respect to the eyebox is generated. In some embodiments, the gaze direction may also be determined and presented in the interface, so that the operator can also prompt the subject to correct issues with incorrect gaze direction.

Retinal imaging systems and methods are described. In an embodiment, the retinal imaging system includes an eyepiece lens assembly; an image sensor adapted to acquire a retinal image of an eye through the eyepiece lens assembly; a dynamic fixation target optically coupled to the eyepiece lens assembly such that the dynamic fixation target is viewable through the eyepiece lens assembly; and a controller communicatively coupled to the image sensor and the dynamic fixation target. In an embodiment, the dynamic fixation target includes a display where an image generated by the display is controlled by a position of a user's eye relative to the eyepiece lens assembly.

A technique for retinal images includes configuring a dynamic illuminator to illuminate the retina with an illumination pattern. An image frame of the retina is captured while illuminated with the illumination pattern. The configuring and the capturing are iterated to sequentially reconfigure the dynamic illuminator to illuminate the retina with a plurality of different illumination patterns and to capture a plurality of image frames each illuminated with one of the different illumination patterns. The image frames are combined into a composite retinal image.

An apparatus for imaging an interior of an eye includes a light sensitive sensor, and a housing structure with an opening defining an imaging area to place the eye for imaging by the light sensitive sensor. One or more light emitters (LEs) are disposed in an image path between the light sensitive sensor and the eye during capture of a plurality of images. A controller is coupled to the plurality of LEs and the light sensitive sensor. The controller implements logic that when executed by the controller causes the apparatus to perform operations including: illuminating the imaging area with the one or more LEs; and capturing, with the light sensitive sensor, the plurality of images of the interior of the eye at the same time as the eye is illuminated with the light from the one or more LEs.
