A system and a method for maintaining an X-ray focal spot position at a desired location on an X-ray detector of an X-ray imaging system include obtaining, via processing circuitry, a scan protocol for performing an X-ray scan with the X-ray imaging system. The system and the method also include determining, via the processing circuitry, a bending magnet current value to utilize to maintain the X-ray focal spot position of an X-ray beam emitted from an X-ray tube of the X-ray imaging system at the desired location on the X-ray detector based on a plurality of acquisition parameters of the X-ray scan. The system and the method further include utilizing, via the processing circuitry, the bending magnet current value during the X-ray scan to maintain the X-ray focal spot position at the desired location on the X-ray detector.

System and method for a built-in alignment mechanism for an X-ray focal spot

Methods and systems are provided for increasing a quality of computed tomography (CT) images generated by a CT system by altering a shape of a focal spot of an X-ray emitter of the CT system. In one embodiment, a method comprises controlling the CT system to focus a beam of electrons generated by a cathode of the CT system at a plurality of focal spots on a surface of an target of the CT system; generating a composite focal spot from the plurality of focal spots; and obtaining projection data of the CT system with the composite focal spot. For example, two focal spots may be combined to generate the composite focal spot. By combining focal spots to generate composite focal spots, a quality of a resulting view produced by the CT system may be increased.

Systems and methods for computed tomography

Systems/techniques that facilitate correction of intra-scan focal-spot displacement are provided. In various embodiments, a system can access a first gantry angle of a medical scanner. In various aspects, the system can determine a first displacement of a focal-spot of the medical scanner based on the first gantry angle, by referencing a mapping that correlates gantry angles to focal-spot displacements. In various instances, the system can compensate, via one or more focal-spot position adjusters of the medical scanner, for the first displacement.

Methods and systems are provided for dual energy imaging. In one embodiment, a method for a dual energy imaging system comprises determining a first tube potential and a second tube potential according to a size of a subject, and controlling the dual energy imaging system with the first tube potential and the second tube potential to generate lower energy x-rays and higher energy x-rays respectively to image the subject. In this way, image quality may be increased while minimizing dose during dual energy imaging of a particular imaging subject.

Systems and methods for automatic tube potential selection in dual energy imaging

A system and method for calibrating an X-ray tube is provided in which the X-ray tube includes an electronic storage medium associated with the X-ray tube on which calibration information for the X-ray tube is stored. The calibration information includes operating parameters for the focusing elements of the X-ray tube for desired focal spots, tolerance limits for variations in the focal spots and a number of gradient coefficient values corresponding to certain modulation transfer functions (MTF) for the X-ray tube that the imaging system can employ in an iterative manner to correct the operating parameters of the focusing elements to achieve the desired focal spot. This automatic iterative process significantly reduces the time required for the calibration of the X-ray tube. The system and method also employs scan sequencing to minimize the heat generated enabling the scans to be completed in a shorter amount of time than prior calibration processes.

System and method for calibration of an X-ray tube

An emitter for a cathode of an X-ray tube is provided that includes a shaped emitting surface. The emitting surface is shaped in a suitable process in order to enable the emitting surface to focus electron beams emitted from the emitting surface on a focal spot on a target of less than 1.0 mm without the need for any additional focusing elements in the X-ray tube.

A component for introducing disturbances into the magnetic field of an asynchronous motor by altering a reluctance of the motor is disclosed. An asynchronous motor is provided that includes a stator having a plurality of windings that is configured to generate a rotating magnetic field when a current is provided to the plurality of windings. The asynchronous motor also includes a rotor positioned within the stator configured to rotate relative thereto responsive to the rotating magnetic field and a component separate from the stator and the rotor that is positioned within the rotating magnetic field, with the component being configured to alter a magnetic reluctance of the rotor so as create a disturbance in the rotating magnetic field.
