A lubricant composition for a compression-ignition internal combustion engine includes an amine and a detergent selected from metal sulfonates, phenates, salicylates, carboxylates, thiophosphonates, and combinations thereof. The lubricant composition has a TBN of from about 10 to about 100 mg KOH/g when tested according to ASTM D2896. The amine contributes from about 0.1 to about 28% of the TBN of the lubricant composition. Further, a method of lubricating an internal combustion engine with the lubricant composition includes the steps of injecting a fuel and the lubricant composition into a cylinder to form a mixture, and combusting the mixture via compression-ignition.

Lubricant composition

Lubricant compositions comprising a base oil, one or more antioxidants selected from a group consisting of N-α-naphthyl-N-phenylamine antioxidants and diphenylamine antioxidants; and one or more sulfur-containing additives exhibit outstanding oxidative stability and non-corrosion properties. The N-α-naphthyl-N-phenylamine antioxidants plus diphenylamine antioxidants in total may be present from about 0.2 wt % to about 0.8 wt %, based on the total weight of the lubricant composition. The sulfur provided by the sulfur-containing additives, in total, may be present from about 50 ppm to about 1000 ppm by weight, based on the total weight of the lubricant composition.

Lubricant compositions comprising a base oil, one or more antioxidants selected from a group consisting of N-&#x3b1;-naphthyl-N-phenylamine antioxidants and diphenylamine antioxidants; and a sulfur-containing additive comprising up to seven carbon atoms exhibit outstanding oxidative stability and non-corrosion properties. The N-&#x3b1;-naphthyl-N-phenylamine antioxidants plus diphenylamine antioxidants in total may be present from about 0.2 wt % to about 0.8 wt %, based on the total weight of the lubricant composition. The sulfur provided by the sulfur-containing additive may be present from about 50 ppm to about 1000 ppm by weight, based on the total weight of the lubricant composition.

The invention is further related to lubricating oil compositions comprising poly(meth)acrylate copolymers containing alkyl(meth) acrylate comonomer with branched C17 alkyl group as viscosity index improving component.

A lubricant composition for improving fuel economy of a vehicle having an internal combustion engine includes a base oil and a friction-reducing compound. The friction reducing compound has the following general formula: wherein R is an alkyl or alkenyl group having 8 or more carbon atoms, each Ris an independently selected hydrocarbon group having 2 to 10 carbon atoms, and n is 1.

Friction-reducing compound, method of producing same, and lubricant composition

A lubricant composition is substantially free of water and includes a base oil present in an amount of greater than 85 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the lubricant composition, includes an antioxidant, and includes one or more alkylethercarboxylic acid corrosion inhibitor(s) present in an amount of from 0.01 to 1 weight percent based on a total weight of said lubricant composition. The one or more alkylethercarboxylic acid corrosion inhibitor(s) have the formula; wherein R is a straight or branched chain C-Calkyl group and n is a number of from 0 to 5.

A lubricant composition includes a base oil and one or more alkylethercarboxylic acid corrosion inhibitor(s) having the formula; In this formula, R is a straight or branched chain C6-C18 alkyl group and n is a number of from 0 to 5. The lubricant composition can be utilized in a method for reducing corrosion of a steel article. The instant invention provides a lubricant composition having improved four-ball antiwear properties. The lubricant composition includes a base oil and one or more alkylethercarboxylic acid corrosion inhibitor(s) having the formula: wherein R is a straight or branched chain C-Calkyl group and n is a number of from 0 to 5. The lubricant composition also includes an ashless antiwear additive including phosphorous. The four-ball antiwear properties are reported as an average diameter of wear scars pursuant to ASTM D4172. The average diameter of the wear scars resulting from the lubricant composition are at least 5% smaller than the average diameter of the wear scars resulting from a standard that includes the base oil and the antiwear additive and that is free of the one or more alkylethercarboxylic acid corrosion inhibitor(s).
