Optimizing viewing assets, such as three-dimensional (3D) virtual objects for mixed reality (MR), virtual reality (VR), or augmented reality (AR) environment visualization may involve obtaining a viewing asset, generating a decimation request for the obtained viewing asset, responsive to generating the decimation request, receiving a set of decimation files, based at least on the set of decimation files, generating a plurality of selectable options, receiving a user selection of an option, and outputting the selected option as a converted viewing asset. Disclosed examples may also include specifying a maximum file size, a minimum polygon count, a maximum polygon count, and a minimum number of renderable viewing assets on a target display platform. Disclosed examples may operate automatically, and may permit tailoring of a decimation recipe.

Optimizing viewing assets

A method and apparatus are disclosed for combining server-supplied user interface elements with client-supplied user interface elements. The server-supplied user interface elements can be received by a client device and inserted into a client-supplied object model, such as a Document Object Model (DOM). The object model can then be used to render a page, such as a webpage. By injecting server-supplied user interface elements into a client object model, the client can intelligently combine UI elements from a server with UI elements from a client. In the situation where there are conflicting or overlapping UI elements, the client device can modify the object model to eliminate such conflicts or overlaps.

Combining server-side and client-side user interface elements

A secure communication method between a web compartment and a client application can allow network updates to be used for a client application. For example, a secure communication method can allow predefined operations to be carried out on a client machine. An example web compartment can include an iframe tag and the communication can be a string command, such as by using a postmessage API. Such a structure allows some user interface elements to be supplied from a client device and other user interface elements to be supplied a server computer.

Communication with a web compartment in a client application

Portions of an application can be delivered through a network without having to download the entire application. When an application is installed, HTML, CSS and JavaScripts&#xae; or other User Interface (UI) files can be copied into local cache. A version number can also be stored with this code, so that when the application is launched, a web service checks the latest version on a server computer. If the latest version differs from the cached version, then an update is needed. New UI files can then be downloaded to the local cache. The local cache can be a folder that is used by the application, wherein the folder is stored on a hard drive of the client device. Binaries associated with the application can be stored in a different folder.

Automatically updating applications on a client's device without interrupting the user's experience

A list of media, such as image media, is dynamically generated and provided to a user. The dynamically generated media playlist may be associated with a user's 'favorite pictures,' 'favorite music' or some other type of media. Each of the &#x201c;favorite media&#x201d; features may be associated with playlist criteria, which is used to dynamically construct a query for media files to include on the playlist. The criteria may specify several requirements for including media in the dynamically created playlist, for example user rating, recently added media, and other criteria. The query is sent to a database, which returns a playlist of media. The returned playlist is provided to a media center, which retrieves and provides the listed media to a user.

Dynamic selection of media for playback

A method, interface, and medium are provided for causing a computer to respond to input based on the source of the input. The computer responds to identical input according to a device that generated the input. The method includes determining information about a receiving component that received the data and using that information to determine the source of input. The source of data input is coupled with the input to initiate a response by the computer. The response can be tailored to how the data was received.
