A side saddle slingshot drilling rig includes a right substructure and a left substructure, the substructures positioned generally parallel and spaced apart from each other. The right substructure includes a right lower box and a first strut, the first strut pivotably coupled to the drill rig floor and pivotably coupled to the right lower box. The left substructure includes a left lower box and a second strut, the second strut pivotably coupled to the drill rig floor and pivotably coupled to the left lower box. The side saddle slingshot drilling rig also includes a drill rig floor, the drill rig floor including a V-door. The side of the drill rig floor has the V-door defining the V-door side of the drill rig floor, the V-door side of the drill rig floor parallel to the right substructure. The side saddle slingshot drilling rig further includes a mast, the mast including an open side defining a mast V-door side. The open side is oriented to face perpendicular to the right substructure. The mast is pivotably coupled to the drill rig floor by one or more mast pivot points and one or more lower mast attachment points, the mast being pivotable in a direction parallel to the V-door side of the drill rig floor or the mast being pivotable in a direction perpendicular to V-door side of the drill rig floor. The mast includes two or more subunits, wherein the two or more subunits are pinned together.

Side-saddle cantilever mast

A drilling rig may include a right substructure, left substructure, and a drill floor. The drill floor may be pivotably coupled to lower boxes of the left and right substructure by struts. The substructures may include hydraulic cylinders positioned to raise the drill floor and a mast coupled to the drill floor into a raised position.

Mast and substructure

A stair tower for a drilling rig is disclosed, the stair tower including a frame, one or more stair flights and platforms positioned within and mechanically coupled to the frame, and a cable tray pivotably coupled to the frame.

A system comprises a wellsite including a wellbore location and a BOP positioned at the wellbore location, a drilling rig in the wellsite and including a rig floor and at least one substructure, the substructure having a longitudinal axis, and a first access area defined as the area between a pair of lines extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the substructure such that the BOP is between the lines, the first access area being free of equipment that is not in transit. The first access area may include a left access area on a first side of the rig, which area may be free of equipment that is not in transit. A method for drilling may include maintaining the left access area free of equipment during rig-up and may further include moving the rig within the wellsite while maintaining at least the left access area free of equipment.

Rig layout system

A spreader beam includes a first spreader beam section, where the first spreader beam section is pivotably coupled to the first substructure and a second spreader beam section, where the second spreader beam section is pivotably coupled to the second substructure. The first and second spreader beam sections are positioned to, in an extended position, selectively couple to each other.

Box frame spreader beam

The cable handling apparatus includes a trolley beam, where the trolley beam is adapted to allow a cable trolley to slide thereon and an articulating arm. The articulating arm is hingedly coupled to the trolley beam, and the articulating arm is hingedly coupled to a piece of wellsite equipment. The articulating arm is repositionable between a retracted position and an extended position.
