A computing device can receive a communication including text that can be presented on a display screen of the computing device. A camera of the computing device can capture image data. The computing device can determine, from the image data, an identity represented in the image data. The computing device can determine an amount of the communication to present on the display screen based on the identity. The computing device can determine, from the image data, user attention is directed toward the display screen. The computing device can present the amount of the communication on the display screen. In some embodiments, the computing device can determine which content of the communication to display based on the identity. The computing device can display a summary of the communication. The computing device can display an amount of the summary and/or the content of the summary based on the identity.

Identity-based display of text

Implementations relate to automatic response suggestions based on images received in messaging applications. In some implementations, a computer-executed method includes detecting a first image included within a first message received at a second device over a communication network from a first device of a first user, and programmatically analyzing the first image to extract a first image content. The method includes retrieving a first semantic concept associated with the first image content, programmatically generating a suggested response to the first message based on the first semantic concept, and transmitting instructions causing rendering of the suggested response in the messaging application as a suggestion to a second user of the second device.

Automatic response suggestions based on images received in messaging applications

Methods, apparatus, and computer readable media related to determining graphical element(s) (e.g., emojis, GIFs, stickers) for inclusion in an electronic communication being formulated by a user via a computing device of the user, and providing the graphical element(s) for inclusion in the electronic communication. For example, the graphical element(s) may be provided for presentation to the user via a display of the computing device of the user and, in response to user interface input directed to one of the graphical element(s), that graphical element may be incorporated in the electronic communication. In various implementations, the electronic communication is a communication to be submitted as part of a dialog that involves the user and one or more additional users.

Determining graphical element(s) for inclusion in an electronic communication

A system for distributing data to a user's device leveraging locally shared cache and multiple communication pathways. A content server of the system may pre-cache content in the shared cache in anticipation that a user will want to access the content. Among other things, pre-caching enables a user to access content on-demand that would require a faster connection to the Internet than the user may have. The system can leverage different communications pathways to the various devices utilizing the shared cache, providing timely delivery of content even if each device's individual connection to the internet is too slow to support timely delivery.

Multi-channel distributed predictive edge cache

A user wanting to enter text via a computing device can start entering characters for that text. A text suggestion algorithm can be used to attempt to predict the text the user is typing, and provide options for completing the text entry. Information such as the type of suggestion and common roots for those suggestions can be used to group at least some of the suggestions. An interface element with a spatial layout can be provided to display at least a portion of the suggestions, where the suggestions are arranged according to their relative confidence values and the determined groupings. The font values for each of the displayed suggestions can also be set using the confidence values, such that more likely terms can be displayed with a larger and/or more prominent font in order to allow the user to more easily locate the correct suggestion.

Spatial approaches to text suggestion

Various types of content can be displayed through an interface of a computing device. Portions of this content, such as words or alphanumeric characters, can have a visual identifier displayed proximate those portions. The identifiers can indicate the availability of additional content, such as one or more alternative spellings or corrections, links to additional information, alternative views, and links to contact information for a name in an address book. In one example, a default viewing orientation of the computing device can be determined for a user viewing the content on the interface. Upon detecting a rotation of the computing device, a banner or other graphical element is displayed for each of the displayed portions that are associated with a visual identifier on the interface. Accordingly, a user can select one of those elements to receive the additional information.

Motions for displaying additional content

A computing device can enable and/or provide communication functionality based at least in part upon a type of pressure applied to the device by a user. In some embodiments, a device can attempt to determine a mood or disposition of the user based upon the way in which the user is gripping and/or squeezing the device, and can provide the user or another person with information about that user's current mood. Similarly, a user might be able to use certain motions or pressure applications at one or more locations on a device to cause certain communications to be sent, such as to send a specific message or convey a certain mood of the user. At least a portion of the computing device can have pressure-sensitive material or capability, in order to allow for input on the sides, back, or other appropriate locations on the device.

Communication via pressure input

A computing device can capture video data of at least a portion of a mouth area (e.g., mouth, lips, tongue, chin, jaw) of a user of the device. The computing device can also capture sound data including a voice of the user as well as noise (e.g. background noise). The video data can be processed to detect a movement of the portion of the mouth area. The movement of the portion of the mouth area can be analyzed and compared with mouth area movement models characteristic of oral communication (e.g., speech, song). If the movement of the portion of the mouth area corresponds to at least one model characteristic of oral communication, then the movement indicates that the user is likely engaging in oral communication. Noise reduction can be applied and/or increased on the captured sound data to reduce noise and in turn enhance the user's voice.

An orientation of a computing device can be determined using at least in part one or more orientation sensors on the computing device. In some embodiments, a location of a head (and a face) of a user of the computing device can be determined and utilized at least in part for the determining of the orientation of the computing device. The computing device can play a media file, for example, via an application capable of media playback. A change to the orientation of the computing device can be determined by the one or more orientation sensors. The playing of the media file can be modified based on the determined change to the orientation of the computing device.
