A fifth wheel system includes a fifth wheel configured to couple to a kingpin of a towed trailer such that vibrations are generated when the fifth wheel couples to the kingpin. A sensor in operative association with the fifth wheel and configured to sense the vibrations and generates vibration data. A controller receives the vibration data and processes the vibration data to detect a presence or an absence of a predetermined vibration component that occurs when the fifth wheel properly couples to the kingpin. An indicator indicates proper coupling of the fifth wheel to the kingpin when the predetermined vibration component is present.

Methods and systems for monitoring coupling of fifth wheels to kingpins

A vehicle spring brake having a parking brake housing that defines a parking brake chamber and a service brake housing that defines a service brake chamber. A flexible membrane separates the parking brake chamber from the service brake chamber and flexes into and out of the service brake chamber based upon a pressure differential between an air pressure in the parking brake chamber and an air pressure in the service brake chamber. A pushrod extends out of the service brake housing when the flexible membrane flexes into the service brake chamber and retracts into the service brake housing when the flexible membrane flexes back out of the service brake chamber. A control valve controls the pressure differential to thereby control movement of the flexible membrane and the pushrod.

A brake chamber stroke indicator system for a brake system including a brake air chamber includes an indicator rod or a string pot gauge including a housing with an indicator rotatably positioned within the housing. A string has a first end attached to the indicator of the string pot gauge. A spring urges the indicator to rotate in a first direction whereby the string is retracted into the housing. The second end of the string is attached to a brake push rod or a pressure plate. The indicator rod is mounted by a base onto a pressure plate.

A method is described herein for detachment of two objects. The method comprising the steps of: (a) associating a bias field source with a first magnetic structure associated with a first object, the first magnetic structure comprising one or more magnetic field sources, the first magnetic structure being magnetically attached to a second magnetic structure associated with a second object, the second magnetic structure comprising one or more magnetic field sources; and (b) using the bias field source to produce a repel force large enough to cause detachment of the first magnetic structure from the second magnetic structure thereby causing detachment of the first object from the second object.

An improved field emission system and method. The invention pertains to field emission structures comprising electric or magnetic field sources having magnitudes, polarities, and positions corresponding to a desired spatial force function where a spatial force is created based upon the relative alignment of the field emission structures and the spatial force function. The spatial force function may be based on one or more codes. In various embodiments, the code may be modified or varied. The code may be combined with another code. One or more aspects of the code, including spacing and amplitude, may be modulated or dithered according to a predefined pattern. Multiple magnet arrays may be combined, each based on a different code or portion of a code, resulting in a combination spatial force function. Magnet structures having differing field patterns may be used to generate a desired spatial force function related to a cross correlation of the two field patterns.

System and method for defining magnetic structures

A system for detachment of correlated magnetic structures includes first and second correlated magnetic structure having complementary coded magnetic sources; and a tool that applies a bias magnet field to cause a transition of the first and second magnetic structures from a closed state in which the first and second magnetic structures are attached to an open state in which the first and second magnetic structures are detached.
