In one aspect, the present invention provides a device for occluding an aperture in a body, for example, a patent foramen ovale (PFO), including a first side adapted to be disposed on one side of the septum and a second side adapted to be disposed on the opposite side of the septum. The device has an elongated, low-profile delivery configuration and a shortened, radially expanded deployment configuration. The first and second sides are adapted to occlude the aperture upon deployment of the device at its intended delivery location. The device also includes a radially expandable center portion. In some embodiments, the center portion includes a plurality of ribs provided by slits in device. The ribs expand radially when the device is deployed. The expandable center portion facilitates the positioning of the device in the aperture. The device can be secured in the deployed configuration using a catch system.

Septal closure device with centering mechanism

The present invention provides a device for delivering and/or recovering an object, such as a patent foramen ovale (PFO) occluder. According to one embodiment of the invention, a device contains an outer sleeve and an inner sheath. The inner sheath has a proximal portion and a distal portion; the distal portion of the inner sheath is disposed inside the lumen of the outer sleeve. The distal portion of the inner sheath can expand radially to facilitate retrieval of an object. The distal portion of the inner sheath has a larger diametrical configuration than the proximal portion of the inner sheath. The distal portion of the inner sheath may be in the shape of a cone or similar shape. The distal portion of the inner sheath further includes slits that form flaps which collapse inward and overlap each other as the distal portion is in its unexpanded configuration.

Implant recovery device

A percutaneous delivery system with a high degree of flexibility is provided. In one embodiment, the system includes a catheter having a portion comprising multiple segments, linked in series by at least one connecting wire. Joints between the multiple segments provide a high degree of flexibility. In some embodiments, only a distal portion is made up of segments. In other embodiments, the whole length of the catheter is made up of segments. Manipulation of the at least one connecting wire enables manipulation of the segments to flex a portion of the catheter. In one aspect, the invention provides a delivery system that reduces the impact of the delivery system on the final release position of the implant delivered. The delivery system can be used to deploy and/or retrieve implantable medical devices, for example, patent foramen ovale (PFO) occluder.

Flexible catheter system

Devices, delivery systems and delivery techniques for an occlusion device for the closure of physical anomalies, such as an atrial septal defect, a patent foramen ovale (PFO), and other septal and vascular defects are described. The devices, delivery systems and delivery techniques relate particularly to, but are not limited to, a patent foramen ovale (PFO) occluder made from a polymer tube. The securement systems enable the deployment (and retrieval) of the device. In one aspect, the second securement system employs a snare connection. The snare connection may have various configurations, including a single snare, double snare, and double criss-cross snare. The securement systems are detached when the device has been properly positioned. The securement systems can be manipulated by control systems provided in the control portion of the delivery system.

A collapsible medical device for occluding an aperture in a body, e.g., a patent foramen ovale (PFO), is disclosed. The device includes a distal end and a distal portion for contacting the distal side of tissue, a proximal end and a proximal portion for contacting the proximal side tissue, a center joint for extending through the aperture and being hollow in the center. The center joint engages the distal and proximal portions and has a variable length to accommodate tissues of different thickness. The device also includes a catch system for holding the collapsible medical device in an expanded configuration. The catch system includes a distal threaded catch portion engaging the distal end and a proximal threaded catch portion engaging the proximate end. The threaded portions rotate relative to one another and cooperate through the center joint to vary a distance between the distal and proximal ends.

This invention relates to a syringe-activated valve for flushing a catheter for delivering an implant to an anatomical site, such as a patent foramen ovale in a patient and method thereof. In one embodiment, a catheter includes a proximal end, a distal end, a 'Y' connector at the proximal end, the 'Y' connector having a guide wire port and a connector port, a syringe activated valve having a first end and a second end, the second end of syringe-activated valve connecting to the connector port of the &#x201c;Y&#x201d; connector, and a syringe connecting to the first end of the syringe-activated valve. Saline is injected by the syringe through the syringe-activated valve into the proximal end of the catheter, thereby flushing air from the catheter lumen out of the distal end of the catheter.
