A head-worn acoustic device includes at least one acoustic transducer disposed such that, in a head-worn state, the transducer is in an open-ear configuration in which an ear canal of a user of the head-worn acoustic device is unobstructed. The acoustic device also includes at least one microphone configured to capture audio that is processed and played back through the transducer, and an amplifier circuit configured to process signals representing the audio captured using the microphone and generate driver signals for the transducer. The transducer and the microphone are disposed on the head-worn acoustic device such that, in the head-worn state, a lobe of a radiation pattern of the at least one acoustic transducer is directed towards the ear canal of the user, and the at least one microphone is positioned in an acoustic null in a radiation pattern of the at least one acoustic transducer.

Microphone placement in open ear hearing assistance devices

An acoustic device includes at least one acoustic transducer disposed such that, in a head-worn state, the at least one acoustic transducer is in an open-ear configuration in which an ear canal of a user of the acoustic device is unobstructed. The acoustic device also includes an array of two or more first microphones that captures audio preferentially from a first direction as compared to at least a second direction different from the first direction, wherein the audio captured using the array is processed and played back through the at least one acoustic transducer, and an active noise reduction (ANR) engine that includes one or more processing devices. The ANR engine is configured to generate a driver signal for the at least one acoustic transducer, the driver signal having phases that reduce effects of audio captured from at least the second direction.

Active noise reduction in open ear directional acoustic devices

An open audio device including an acoustic radiator that emits front-side acoustic radiation from its front side, and emits rear-side acoustic radiation from its rear side. A front acoustic cavity receives front-side acoustic radiation and comprises at least one front sound-emitting opening, and a rear acoustic cavity receives rear-side acoustic radiation and comprises at least one rear sound-emitting opening. The front and rear acoustic cavities each have a fundamental frequency. The fundamental frequencies are within one octave of each other.

The second transducer module may include a second transducer. The second transducer module may include a second enclosure having a top side defining a third slit and a bottom side defining a fourth slit. An electro-acoustic transducer with a diaphragm with a front side and a rear side, the diaphragm configured to radiate front side acoustic radiation from its front side and rear side acoustic radiation from its rear side. There is a magnet, and a magnetic circuit that defines a path for magnetic flux of the magnet and comprises a gap, wherein the magnetic circuit comprises a pole piece. A voice coil is located in the magnetic circuit gap and configured to move the diaphragm. A basket is supported by the magnetic circuit. The basket supports the diaphragm. There are first and second openings in the basket. The first and second basket openings are both configured to receive one of the front side acoustic radiation and rear side acoustic radiation. The first opening is spaced from the second opening. The first opening has a greater acoustic resistance than the second opening.

Electro-acoustic transducer for open audio device

The technology described in this document can be embodied in a system that includes a seat headrest enclosing at least one first acoustic transducer that generates audio output in a first frequency range. The system also includes an adjustable headrest wing disposed in front of the seat headrest, the headrest wing being pivotally coupled to the seat headrest and adjustable to one of multiple positions. The headrest wing includes at least one second acoustic transducer that generates audio output in a second frequency range that includes frequencies higher than the upper end of the first frequency range. The system further includes a controller configured to adjust, for a given position of the headrest wing, one or more parameters of at least one of: (i) the first acoustic transducer and (ii) the second acoustic transducer in accordance with a target acoustic distribution.
