A system for monitoring at least one of the damaged physical condition, orientation and location of the upright side links of a spiral, self-stacking conveyor belt, the side links disposed along the side margins of the conveyor belt and the side links on one tier configured to stack on top of the side links of an underlying tier. The monitoring system includes a sensor for acquiring data pertaining to at least one of the damaged physical condition, orientation and location of the conveyor belt side links. The monitoring system also including a processing system for receiving and analyzing the data from the sensor to determine at least one of the damaged physical condition and orientation of the side links and the locations of the side links, and to determine if maintenance of or remedial action to the conveyor belt is necessary.

A rail and track cartridge for building straight or radial belt conveyors comprises two or more rails connected to each other, wherein the two or more rails each has a first and second free end; and a track connected to each rail, wherein each track is supported by tabs protruding from the rail, wherein the track is offset to the side from the rail, and an upper track surface is above a top surface of the rail. An adjustable cartridge has bent free ends of the two or more rails attached to the same tier arm to adjust the length of the rails to fit within the tier arms.

Spiral conveyors have a drive drum, wherein the drive drum comprises a plurality of drive drum bars connected around an outer perimeter of the drive drum, wherein a drive rod on a drive drum bar is distally located on the outer perimeter of the drive drum, wherein the drive drum bar comprises the drive rod; a face plate; and a support rib, wherein the support rib is connected to the drive rod through standoffs, and the face plate is located between the drive rod and the support rib, and the face plate is separated from the drive rod.

A method and apparatus for controlling the direction of a defrost device for refrigeration coils includes measuring the current drawn by or the torque produced by a permanent magnet motor, wherein the permanent magnet motor powers a defrost device recurrently back and forth along refrigeration coils and reverses the direction of the permanent magnet motor when the measured current drawn or measured torque produced are at or above a first limit. The method omits the use of switches and sensors to signal when the defrost device is reversed to reduce failures and stoppages.
