Methods and devices for generating a stereoscopic image are described. In one aspect, the electronic device includes a main body and a support rotatably coupled with the main body about an axis of rotation. The support is rotatable between a plurality of positions including a first position and a second position. The electronic device also includes a first camera module for generating first camera data and a second camera module for generating second camera data. The second camera module is positioned in spaced relation to the first camera module and coupled to the support away from the axis of rotation. The electronic device further includes a controller coupled with the first camera module and the second camera module.

Methods and devices for generating a stereoscopic image

Method, system and apparatus for cooling a mobile device is provided. The device comprises: a housing comprising one or more apertures; a heat producing device; a cooling apparatus adjacent the heat producing device, the cooling apparatus comprising: an inlet; an outlet; and, a thermal pump configured to: draw air from the inlet to the heat producing device to form heated air, and exhaust the heated air from the outlet; and, one or more carbon nanotubes, a respective entrance of each of the one or more carbon nanotubes located at the outlet of the cooling apparatus, and a respective exit of each of the one or more carbon nanotubes terminating at a respective aperture of the one or more apertures, so that the heated air is vented through the one or more apertures.

Method, system and apparatus for cooling a mobile device

A device and method to detect a gesture performed by an object in touch-less communication with the device are described. The device includes two or more ambient light sensors arranged at respective first surface locations of the device, each of the two or more ambient light sensors sensing light intensity at the respective first surface location. The device also includes one or more processors to operate one or more light sources at respective second surface locations of the device based on the light intensity sensed by the two or more ambient light sensors, and detect the gesture based on the light intensity sensed by each of the two or more ambient light sensors.

A method, system and apparatus for providing notifications for different workspaces is provided. The device comprises a processor, a memory, and a notification device, the processor enabled to: manage a first workspace and a second workspace distinguished from each other by one or more of: data stored at the memory being associated with one or another of the first workspace and the second workspace; and accounts being associated with the one or the another of the first workspace and the second workspace; and, when a current workspace comprises the first workspace, control the notification device to present first notifications associated only with the first workspace, while second notifications associated with the second workspace are not presented.

A device and method to detect a gesture made by an object in touch-less communication with the device are described. The device includes two or more ambient light sensors arranged at respective surface locations of the device, each of the two or more ambient light sensors configured to measure light intensity at the respective surface location. The device also includes a processor configured to detect the gesture based on a comparison of the light intensity measured at each of the respective surface locations at two or more time instants or measurement cycles.

Systems and methods to control charging of power packs. Capacities of a first and second power pack associated with a charging station are monitored. When an energy harvesting device is producing energy, it is connected to a rechargeable device when the capacities of the first and second power pack are below a respective threshold. When the energy harvesting device is producing energy, it is connected to the first power pack and the second power pack is connected to the rechargeable device when the first power pack capacity is below a first threshold and the second power pack capacity is above a second threshold. The second power pack is connected to the rechargeable device when the energy harvesting device is not producing energy, the first power pack capacity is below the first threshold, and the second power pack capacity is above the second threshold.

A device for detecting a carrying case using orientation signatures, and method therefor, is provided. The device includes: at least one orientation sensor; a memory storing one or more carrying-case insertion signatures; and, a processor configured to: receive output from the at least one orientation sensor as a function of time; and place the device in a carrying case mode when a time-dependent pattern in the output matches the one or more carrying-case insertion signatures.

Methods and devices for generating a stereoscopic image are described. In one aspect, the electronic device includes a first camera for generating first camera data, a second camera for generating second camera data and a third camera for generating third camera data. The cameras are positioned on a same side of the electronic device and in spaced relation to each other. The electronic device also includes a controller coupled with the first camera, the second camera and the third camera. The controller is configured to: identify an orientation of the electronic device; and generate a stereoscopic image based on the first camera data and the second camera data when the electronic device is at a first orientation, and generate the stereoscopic image based on the first camera data and the third camera data when the electronic device is at a second orientation.

A portable electronic device for reducing specific absorption rate (SAR) is provided. The portable electronic device comprises a processor, at least one antenna, and a sensor enabled to detect when the portable electronic device is being held by a complementary holder, the processor enabled to: determine that the sensor has detected the holder; and, responsively, switch the at least one antenna from an omnidirectional mode to a directional mode such that energy is radiated from a given side of the portable electronic device.

Portable electronic device for reducing specific absorption rate

An apparatus and method for determining a power supply electrical current capacity. In one example, an operating circuit is placed into an operating mode that causes the operating circuit to have a determined electrical current consumption. A charging circuit that is electrically connected in parallel with the operating circuit is configured to provide a maximum charging current to a power pack. After configuring the charging circuit, a value of a measured charging current provided to the power pack is received. After receiving the value of the measured charging current, an electrical current supply capacity value of the external power supply is determined as a function of the determined electrical current consumption and the value of the measured charging current.

Method and system for detecting power supply source electrical current capacity

A handheld electronic device includes a processor; a battery; a flash device; a number of loads powered by the battery; and a flash driver outputting a flash current to the flash device. The processor determines a temperature operatively associated with the battery and different voltage values corresponding to different combinations of the loads as a function of the determined temperature, and starts the flash device at a predetermined flash current value. The flash driver selects a corresponding different voltage value as a function of: (a) a determined number of the loads which are active, or (b) a current flowing from the battery; determines the battery voltage, and if the battery voltage is less than or equal to the corresponding different voltage value, reduces the flash current below the predetermined flash current value until the battery voltage is greater than the corresponding different voltage value.

Method of driving a flash device and a number of loads powered by a battery and handheld electronic device including the same

A method and apparatus for maintaining a maximum sustained flash current over the whole length of a flash using a programmable current drive in a handheld portable device powered by a battery. The method involves measuring the battery voltage before and after a flash is initiated and calculating the equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the battery. The calculated ESR is then used to adjust the flash current. The process may be repeated to correct for errors in the flash current.
