Systems and methods for controlling a vehicle. One example system includes a deceleration actuator coupled to a first wheel of the vehicle and an electronic processor communicatively coupled to the deceleration actuator. The electronic processor is configured to receive a vehicle park command. The electronic processor is configured to, responsive to receiving the vehicle park command, determine a maximum holding pressure threshold. The electronic processor is configured to determine a requested braking pressure for the deceleration actuator. The electronic processor is configured to determine whether the requested braking pressure exceeds the maximum holding pressure threshold. The electronic processor is configured to, responsive to determining that the requested braking pressure does not exceed the maximum holding pressure threshold, control the deceleration actuator to apply, to the first wheel during a hold time, a holding braking pressure equivalent to the requested braking pressure.

Automated braking control systems

A vehicle braking system includes a first wheel cylinder, a second wheel cylinder, a master cylinder including a first master cylinder chamber in fluid communication with the first wheel cylinder via a first circuit and a second master cylinder chamber in fluid communication with the second wheel cylinder via a second circuit, and an electronically controlled pressure generating unit separate from the master cylinder. The vehicle braking system is operable to provide braking in a first configuration in which the electronically controlled pressure generating unit pressurizes fluid, through the master cylinder, in the first circuit, to the first wheel cylinder. In the first configuration, the electronically controlled pressure generating unit pressurizes fluid in the second circuit to the second wheel cylinder, bypassing the master cylinder.

Vehicle braking system and method of operating the same

A method and system for braking a vehicle using supplemental deceleration provided by an electronic parking brake. The method includes detecting a reduced function state of an integrated braking system; detecting a brake pedal input from an operator of the vehicle; and automatically generating a braking force via the electronic parking brake based on the brake pedal input and the reduced function state.

Supplemental deceleration using electronic parking brake in fully integrated braking systems

Systems and methods are described for controlling a vehicle braking system. An electronic controller determines a target deceleration based at least in part on a detected displacement position of a brake pedal and determines an adjusted braking pressure to be applied to at least one wheel of the vehicle such that, regardless of the displacement position of the brake pedal and the target deceleration, the adjusted braking pressure is maintained outside of a defined range of braking pressures that corresponds to a NVH condition for the at least one wheel. The adjusted braking pressure is then applied to the at least one wheel of the vehicle.

Brake NVH countermeasure

A vehicle braking system includes a brake pedal, a master cylinder, a braking circuit with a wheel cylinder, a brake pressure generator for brake-by-wire braking, and a pedal feel simulator. In response to detecting impending wheel lock-up, a controller conducts an anti-lock braking routine during which the controller is programmed to create an artificial haptic feedback pulse to the brake pedal by opening a normally-open isolation valve between the master cylinder and the brake circuit to move a master cylinder piston until a compensation port opens.

A vehicle braking system includes a wheel cylinder, a brake pedal, a master cylinder, a master cylinder circuit, a primary braking unit operable to generate a braking force at the wheel cylinder in a primary mode, decoupled from the master cylinder circuit, a secondary braking unit including a second electrically-actuated pressure generating unit and operable to generate a braking force at the wheel cylinder in a secondary mode of operation, a plurality of valves configured to provide anti-lock braking at the wheel cylinder upon loss of traction during braking in the primary mode of operation, and a controller programmed to actuate the plurality of valves and further programmed to actuate the second electrically-actuated pressure generating unit upon loss of traction in the primary mode of operation to generate pulsations within the master cylinder circuit to provide a feedback force at the brake pedal indicative of the anti-lock braking.

A vehicle braking system includes a wheel cylinder, a master cylinder, a brake pedal operable to transmit a user input force to the master cylinder, a primary braking unit including a first electronically controlled pressure generating unit distinct from the master cylinder and operable to generate a braking force at the wheel cylinder in a first mode of operation, a secondary braking unit including a second electronically controlled pressure generating unit distinct from the master cylinder and operable to generate a braking force at the wheel cylinder in a second mode of operation and a pedal feel simulator operable to provide feedback to the brake pedal according to a fixed characteristic of the pedal feel simulator defining a predetermined force-stroke relationship relating a travel distance of the brake pedal to the user input force. In the first mode of operation, the secondary braking unit is operable to receive fluid from the master cylinder to diverge from the predetermined force-stroke relationship at the brake pedal.

A hydraulic braking system having: at least one wheel brake cylinder; a primary brake pressure generator that is disconnectably hydraulically coupled to the at least one wheel brake cylinder and is embodied to impinge upon the at least one wheel brake cylinder with pressure by way of a hydraulic fluid; a brake master cylinder that has at least one first pressure chamber and to which at least one wheel brake cylinder is hydraulically coupled; and a secondary brake pressure generator that is coupled to the first pressure chamber of the brake master cylinder and is embodied to impinge upon the first pressure chamber of the brake master cylinder with pressure, the secondary brake pressure generator being controllable independently of the primary brake pressure generator. Hydraulic braking system and method

A braking system includes a master cylinder including a master cylinder output, at least one wheel cylinder, a shuttle valve including a shuttle, a volume booster distinct from the master cylinder, a first hydraulic fluid path connecting the master cylinder output to the at least one wheel cylinder through the volume booster and the shuttle valve and a second hydraulic fluid path connecting the master cylinder output to the at least one wheel cylinder through the shuttle valve, bypassing the volume booster. Only one of the first hydraulic fluid path or the second hydraulic fluid path is operable at any one time.

Braking system and method of operating the same

A vehicle braking system having a master cylinder and first and second hydraulic braking circuits including respective first and second wheel cylinders for braking first and second wheels. The master cylinder has first and second outlets, first and second pistons associated with the first and second outlets, a fluid reservoir and a master cylinder input member provided with a mechanical coupling to drive the first piston and configured to drive the second piston only through movement of hydraulic fluid. The second hydraulic braking circuit is selectively disengageable from the master cylinder via a separation valve. The second hydraulic braking circuit includes a line coupling a suction side of a pump with the master cylinder reservoir. A pressure control valve is configured to modulate the amount of fluid drawn from the reservoir by the pump. The second hydraulic braking circuit is coupled to the first outlet of the master cylinder.

Braking system

A hill hold decay (HDD) system of a vehicle. The system includes a longitudinal acceleration sensor, a wheel speed sensor, a brake pedal detector, a gas pedal detector, a gear sensor, and a controller. The controller is configured to determine the vehicle has come to a standstill, determine a slope of the ground the vehicle is on, determine a direction of travel of the vehicle is downhill, detect a release of a brake release a brake force applied to a plurality of wheels of the vehicle at a constant first rate, determine a speed of the vehicle has reached a minimum threshold, release the brake force at a second rate as long as the speed of the vehicle is increasing, determine the speed of the vehicle has reached a maximum threshold, and release the brake force.

Hill hold decay

A vehicle brake system. The system includes a wheel brake, a brake pedal, a master cylinder, a first valve, a second valve, a pump, a pressure sensor, a pressure controlling device, and a controller. The master cylinder increases a pressure of a brake fluid in the brake system based on a user depressing the brake pedal. The pump pumps the brake fluid through the first valve to the wheel brake and to draw the brake fluid from the wheel brake through the second valve. The pressure sensor senses a pressure of the brake fluid in the brake system. The pressure controlling device reduces a pressure of the brake fluid at the master cylinder. The controller operates the first and second valves, the pump, and the pressure controlling device during a controlled braking event.

Pedal oscillation suppression

A vehicle braking system includes a master cylinder having first and second outputs. First and second hydraulic braking circuits are provided between the respective master cylinder outputs and respective hydraulic wheel cylinders. A first pump provided in the first hydraulic braking circuit is operable to generate pressure and move hydraulic fluid within the first hydraulic braking circuit. A second pump provided in the second hydraulic braking circuit is operable to generate pressure and move hydraulic fluid within the second hydraulic braking circuit. A valving arrangement establishes fluid communication between the first pump and the second hydraulic braking circuit in a first configuration and prevents fluid communication between the first pump and the second hydraulic braking circuit in a second configuration.

Braking system with switchable pump path

A control device for a braking system of a vehicle is provided, having a first receiving device which receives a provided brake activation intensity variable, a plunger control device which determines a setpoint fill level variable of a plunger, taking into account at least the received brake activation intensity variable, and a corresponding plunger control signal is outputtable so that a ratio of an actual volume and a maximum fillable volume of a storage volume of the plunger is settable corresponding to the determined setpoint fill level variable. For a brake activation intensity variable corresponding to a predefined non-activation intensity variable, the plunger control device determines a fill level variable different from an empty state as the setpoint fill level variable, and outputs a plunger control signal corresponding to the determined setpoint fill level variable to the plunger such that the plunger is at least partially filled.
