A gas turbine engine component includes an inner surface and an outer surface. The outer surface and the inner surface are formed of ceramic matrix composite layers, and mount member. The mount member is in contact with an insert that is inserted within outer layers of the outer platform to form a thickened portion having an end surface that will react against forces from the mount member. A gas turbine engine and a method are also disclosed.

A method of forming a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) vane including an inner diameter platform, an outer diameter platform, and an airfoil extending between the inner diameter platform and the outer diameter platform includes laying up a ceramic preform by arranging at least one core formed from a first ceramic material, and laying up, over the at least one ceramic core, a plurality of contoured plies, each of the plurality of contoured plies formed from a second ceramic material. Each of the plurality of contoured plies partially forms the inner diameter platform, the outer diameter platform, and the airfoil of the vane. The method further includes densifying the ceramic preform with a matrix.

An airfoil piece includes at least one inner ceramic matrix composite ply which defines an internal cavity of an airfoil section and first and second collar projections. At least one inner ceramic matrix composite ply is continuous through the airfoil section and first and second collar projections, first and second platforms at the first and second ends of the airfoil section. The first and second collar projections extend radially past the first and second platforms, respectively. A vane for a gas turbine engine and a method of assembling a vane are also disclosed.

A vane for a gas turbine engine includes an airfoil section that has an airfoil wall defining a leading edge, a trailing edge, a pressure side, and a suction side that bound an internal cavity. The airfoil section has associated characteristics including a center of pressure and an aerodynamic load vector through the center of pressure. The airfoil wall has a single rib connecting the pressure side and the suction side. The single rib is aligned with the aerodynamic load vector.

An airfoil piece includes a first vane platform, a second vane platform, and a hollow airfoil section that joins the first vane platform and the second vane platform. The hollow airfoil section includes a collar projection which extends past the first vane platform. The collar projection includes at least one radial tab projecting therefrom. An airfoil assembly and a method of assembling a vane are also disclosed.
