An improved de-entrainment device for use in distillation towers, especially vacuum distillation towers used for fractionating petroleum atmospheric resids is in the form of a baffle which is to be located in the portion of the tower below the feed zone and at the top of the flash zone. The baffle is in the form of an apertured plate above the stripping zone and in its preferred form comprises number of radial fins or blades, resembling a static fan with openings between the fins to permit vapors from the lower portions of the tower to pass upwards through the baffle with a minimal pressure drop. The fins of the baffle are preferably oriented at an angle between 30&#xb0; and 60&#xb0; away from the incoming feed so that the incoming feed stream skims over the top edges of the fins.

This invention relates to efficiently regenerating catalyst particles by minimizing the formation of localized 'hot spots' and 'cold spots' in a regeneration zone. Specifically this invention relates to a method for controlling regenerator temperature in an oxygenates-to-olefins system, comprising the steps of: contacting an oxygenate feed in a reactor with a catalytically effective amount of molecular sieve-containing catalyst under conditions effective for converting said oxygenate to a product containing light olefins and forming a coked catalyst; contacting a portion of the coked catalyst in a regenerator, having a catalyst bed height (H), an inlet height (H), and an outlet height (H), with an oxygen-containing regeneration medium under conditions effective to at least partially regenerate the coked catalyst; and conducting a portion of the catalyst from the regenerator to a catalyst cooler to form a cooled catalyst portion, wherein His greater than H.

A gas-solids reaction system with termination devices to connect a riser with one or more separation devices. The termination devices have a radius of curvature that is at least 1.0 times as great as the diameter of the conduit forming the termination device. Described herein are methods and mechanisms for laterally dispensing fluid to a coke drum in a predictable and maintainable manner that alleviates thermal stress. In one embodiment, the methods and mechanisms utilize a split piping system to dispense fluid through two or more inlets into a spool that is connected to a coke drum and a coke drum bottom deheader valve. A combination of block valves and clean out ports provides a more effective means to clean the lines and allows fluid to be laterally dispensed in a controllable and predictable manner. The fluid is preferably introduced to the spool in opposing directions toward a central vertical axis of the spool at equal but opposing angles ranging from minus thirty (&#x2212;30) to thirty (30) degrees relative to a horizontal line laterally bisecting the spool. Alternatively, however, fluid can be introduced to the spool tangentially.

Coker feed method and apparatus

This invention provides processes for maintaining a desired particle size distribution in an oxygenate to olefin reaction system. In one embodiment, the invention comprises replacing lost catalyst fines with less active co-catalyst particles. By adding less active co-catalyst particles to the reaction system, desirable fluidization characteristics and hydrodynamics can be maintained without affecting the overall (or primary catalyst) performance and product selectivities. The invention is also directed to a population of catalyst particles having a desirable particle size distribution well-suited for realizing ideal fluidization and hydrodynamic characteristics.

This invention is to a process and system for controlling solids distribution in a gas-solids reactor. Solids distribution is controlled by controlling electrical charges between solid particles flowing between conductive surfaces within a gas-solids reactor. The electrical charges are controlled by conventional means such as by grounding the opposing conductive surfaces, or by applying a voltage to one of the opposing conductive surfaces.
