A crosslinkable polymer composition includes an unsaturated polyolefin having a total amount of carbon-carbon double bonds/1000 carbon atoms of at least 0.1, at least one scorch retarder, and at least one crosslinking agent.

The invention relates to a pigmented cable jacket comprising a polymer composition which comprises a multimodal polyolefin, preferably polyethylene, and pigment composition comprising a color pigment wherein a blend of said pigment composition and said polymer composition is showing an average diameter of spherulites as determined according to the dissolution-recrystallization method which is at most 50% lower, more preferred at most 30% lower and still more preferred at most 10% lower than the average diameter of spherulites in the non-blended polymer composition as determined according to the dissolution-recrystallization method. Further, the invention relates to the use of a color pigment for the production of such a pigmented cable jacket comprising a polymer composition which comprises a multimodal polyolefin, preferably polyethylene, and a pigment composition comprising said color pigment wherein said pigment is a non-warping pigment and to the use of a multimodal polyolefin, preferably polyethylene, for the production of such a pigmented cable jacket comprising a polymer composition which comprises said multimodal polyolefin and a pigment composition comprising a color pigment wherein said pigment is a non-warping pigment.

A composition for an insulating layer of an electric cable wherein the composition contains an ethylene plastic as the base resin and further contains up to about 5% by weight of additives including antioxidant, and peroxide cross-linking agent. The composition is characterised in that the antioxidant additive includes a compound of the formula (V): R (&mdash;(C&plus;O)O&mdash;)k(CH ) &mdash;S&mdash;(CH ) (&mdash;OO(C&boxH;O)&mdash;) R where R and R , which are the same of different, are C -C alkyl, C -C alkenyl, R &mdash;Ar&mdash;, Ar&mdash;R &mdash;, or AR&mdash;, where R is C -C alkyl and Ar is c -c aryl; k and n, which are the same of different, are 0 or 1, l and m, which are the same or different, are integers &gE;0; with the proviso that the compound is free from phenolic groups; and that the compositions is free from compounds having the formula (VI): R&mdash;O&mdash;(C&boxH;O)&mdash;CH CH SCH CH &mdash;(C&boxH;O)&mdash;O&mdash;R where R is a C -C alkyl group.

A process for the reduction of reactor fouling at radical initiated high pressure polymerisation of ethylene (co)polymers is described. The process is characterised in that an adhesion reducing silicon containing compound is added to the polymerisation reactor, preferably in an amount of 0.001-3% by weight, based on the amount of polymer produced. Preferably the silicon containing compound is hexadecyl trimethoxy silane.

Process for the reduction of reactor fouling

A multimodal polymer composition for fiber optical cables and a fiber optical cable comprising the composition are disclosed. The composition is characterized in that it comprises a multimodal polyethylene with a density of 0.920-0.965 g/cm,and a viscosity at a shear stress of 2.7 kPa (&eegr;,) of at least 150 kPa.s, said multimodal polyethylene comprising a low molecular weight (LMW) ethylene homo- or copolymer fraction and a high molecular weight (HMW) ethylene copolymer fraction, said multimodal polymer composition having a weight ratio of the LMW fraction to the HMW fraction of (35-55):(65-45). Preferably, the multimodal polyethylene is a bimodal polyethylene and has a shear thinning index (SHI), defined as the ratio of the viscosities at shear stresses of 2.7 and 210 kPa, respectively, of SHI,&equals;20-150. Also, preferably, the multimodal polyethylene has a MFR,of 0.1-2.0 g/10 min and a melt strength at 190&deg; C. of at least 4 g. The multimodal polymer composition is particularly useful as a material for slotted core elements of fiber optical cables of the slotted core type.

The insulating composition comprises a multimodal olefin polymer mixture, obtained by polymerization of at least one &agr;-olefin in more than one stage having a density of about 0.920-0.965 g/cm,, a melt flow rate (MFR,) of about 0.2-5 g/10 min, an FRR,&gE;60, and an environmental stress cracking resistance (ESCR) according to ASTM D 1693 A/10% Igepal, of at least 500 hrs, said olefin polymer mixture comprising at least a first and a second olefin polymer, of which the first is selected from (a) a low molecular weight (MW) olefin polymer with a density of about 0.925-0.975 g/cm,and a melt flow rate (MFR,) of about 300-20 000 g/10 min, and (b) a high molecular weight (MW) olefin polymer with a density of about 0.880-0.950 g/cm,and a melt flow rate (MFR,) of about 0.5-20 g/10 min.
