Manual insertion device has retraction spring () and hollow septum configuration () implemented using barrel-shaped guides () and a guiding boss () in insertion device housing (), and provides a fluid path through alignment of septum openings, side-port openings and catheter openings upon complete catheter insertion. Button () causes manual insertion of introducer needle () and catheter () of a first barrel () into a skin surface, and loading of retraction spring () disposed in an adjacent second barrel (). Once introducer needle () and catheter () are fully inserted, the introducer needle hub () is released and automatically retracted by release of the retraction spring (), leaving the catheter () in the user's body. Septums () and side-port openings () in the button () and introducer needle () are thus aligned, creating an uninterrupted fluid path between a reservoir or pump and catheter ().

Catheter insertion mechanism for a patch pump

An insulin infusion system is provided with a manual insertion device having a dual retraction spring () configuration for automatic introducer needle () retraction. A button () of the insertion device is used to insert the introducer needle () and catheter (), and once the introducer needle () and catheter () have been fully inserted, a rotating engagement releases the dual retraction springs () such that the introducer needle () automatically retracts, leaving the catheter () in the body of the user. An end of the introducer needle () remains in the inserted catheter () and/or in the septum () of the inserted catheter () to provide an uninterrupted fluid path.

In certain aspects, the methods include manipulating or analyzing the combined discrete entity or a component therein, e.g. imaging, sequencing, culturing, e.g., three-dimensional culturing, and measuring cell-cell interactions. Systems and devices for practicing the subject methods are also provided.

Platform for the deterministic assembly of microfluidic droplets

A button safety cap for a patch pump or other fluid infusion device prevents accidental activation of an activation button of a catheter insertion device that, when pressed, moves from an undeployed position to a deployed position to introduce a cannula and/or a needle into a user's skin. The button safety cap includes a pull member and a stabilizing surface adapted to stabilize the patch pump or other fluid infusion device when oriented for filling, and to prevent rotation and/or translation of the button safety cap relative to at least one of the activation button and the patch pump or other fluid infusion device on which the button safety cap is assembled. The button safety cap has a flexible snap feature adapted to engage the activation button and retain the button safety cap on the activation button until a predetermined removal force is applied to the button safety cap.

Button safety cap for catheter insertion device

A rotary pump for a fluid metering system is provided. The rotary pump reciprocates, and is reversed by a signal from a limit switch that is deflected by an actuator arm on a rotating sleeve of the pump system. The sleeve receives a gasket that forms a seal between the sleeve and the housing, the gasket having an opening surrounding a side hole of the sleeve to permit fluid to pass through the side hole between a pump volume and an inlet port or outlet port of the housing.

A cannula insertion device is disclosed. The device includes a needle carriage, a rail device on which the needle carriage is slidable, a yoke having a channel, a linkage connected to the needle carriage and extending into the channel, a torsion spring with one end connected to the linkage, and locking device for locking the torsion spring in tension and maintaining the needle carriage and the linkage in a locked position prior to activation. Upon release of the locking device, the tension of the torsion spring is released, which causes the linkage to move in the channel and slide the needle carriage along the rail device. A catheter carriage may also be provided for actuation by the linkage.

Cannula deployment mechanism

A catheter insertion device () includes a housing () with a base (), a catheter (), an introducer needle () and an actuator () mounted within the housing. The catheter () and needle () are coupled to the actuator () and movable between a first position where the catheter and needle are retracted within the housing and a second position where the catheter and needle extend from the housing, and where the needle retracts into the actuator when the catheter and needle reach the second position. The actuator () has a detent () that engages a first recess () to require a predetermined force to depress the actuator () which is greater than the force necessary to slide the actuator () to the second position where the detent () engages a second recess () in the housing () to hold the actuator in the deployed position.
