Process to make base oil from Fischer-Tropsch condensate by concurrent oligomerization and alkylation

A process for making a base oil, comprising: selecting a feed from a Fischer-Tropsch condensate; oligomerizing the feed in an ionic liquid; and0 alkylating the oligomer in the presence of an isoparaffin, in an ionic liquid alkylation zone, to form a product having: a kinematic viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. of 6.9 mm/s or greater, a VI of at least 134, and a Bromine Number of less than 4. A process comprising: oligomerizing at least one olefin in a feed from a Fischer-Tropsch condensate, wherein an olefin fraction in the olefin feed comprises greater than 50 wt % C4+ olefins, and alkylating the oligomerized product to form a base oil product. A process comprising contacting an olefin feed from a Fischer-Tropsch condensate with an isoparaffin, an acidic chloroaluminate ionic liquid catalyst, and a Br&#xf6;nsted acid; whereby a base oil is produced by concurrent oligomerization and alkylation.

Composition of a superior lubricant or lubricant blendstock

We provide a process to make a lubricant component, comprising: a. oligomerizing a feed comprising one or more olefins in an ionic liquid oligomerization zone, at oligomerization conditions, to form an oligomer; and b. alkylating the oligomer in the presence of an isoparaffin, in an ionic liquid alkylation zone, at alkylation conditions including a molar ratio of one or more olefins and one or more isoparaffins of at least 0.8, to form an alkylated oligomeric product that is a lubricant component having a kinematic viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. of at least 6.9 mm/s, a VI of at least 134, a cloud point less than or equal to &#x2212;28&#xb0; C., and a Bromine Number of less than or equal to 6.1.

Process to make a lubricant component by oligomerizing and alkylating at a molar ratio of olefin to isoparaffin of at least 0.8

We provide a process for making a base oil, comprising: a) selecting an olefin feed produced by thermal cracking of a waxy feed; b) oligomerizing the olefin feed in an ionic liquid oligomerization zone at a set of oligomerization conditions to form an oligomer; and c) alkylating the oligomer in the presence of an isoparaffin, in an ionic liquid alkylation zone, at a set of alkylation conditions to form an alkylated oligomeric product having a kinematic viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. of 6.9 mm/s or greater, a VI of at least 134, and a Bromine Number of less than 4. We provide a process to make base oil from an olefin feed produced in a FCC unit. We also provide a process to make two or more viscosity grades of base oil from an olefin feed produced by thermal cracking of a waxy feed.

Process to make base oil from thermally cracked waxy feed using ionic liquid catalyst

A process for producing a lubricant bright stock from a very heavy feed obtained from a petroleum crude is disclosed. The bright stock produced by the present process has a reduced cloud point and better oxidation stability relative to bright stocks prepared by conventional methods. The process comprises the steps of providing a petroleum residuum-derived stream; separating the residuum-derived stream at a distillation cut point in the range of 1150&#xb0; F. to 1300&#xb0; F., into a heavy fraction and at least one light fraction; hydrocracking the at least one light fraction under conditions to reduce the concentration of sulfur and nitrogen to suitable levels for hydroisomerization dewaxing; and dewaxing at least a portion of the hydrocracked stream under hydroisomerization conditions to produce a lubricant bright stock.

Production of high quality lubricant bright stock

We provide a process for making a fuel or lubricant component, comprising: performing alkylation and oligomerization by contacting a stream comprising one or more olefins and one or more isoparaffins, wherein a molar ratio of the one or more olefins to the one or more isoparaffins in the stream is at least 0.8, an acidic chloroaluminate ionic liquid catalyst, and a halohalide; and recovering the fuel or lubricant component having a Bromine Number of less than 4. We provide a process comprising performing concurrent alkylation and oligomerization. We also provide a process for making a lubricant component having a kinematic viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. of at least 6.9 mm/s, a VI of at least 134, a cloud point less than or equal to &#x2212;28&#xb0; C., and a Bromine Number of less than or equal to 6.1.

Oligomerizing and alkylating with an ionic liquid at a molar ratio of olefin to isoparaffin of at least 0.8

A process and method for making a superior lubricant or distillate fuel component by the oligomerization/alkylation of a mixture comprising olefins and isoparaffins to produce an alkylated ('capped') olefin oligomer using an acidic chloroaluminate ionic liquid catalyst system. Preferably the ionic liquid catalyst system comprises a Br&#xf6;nsted acid.

Process for the formation of a superior lubricant or fuel blendstock by ionic liquid oligomerization of olefins in the presence of isoparaffins

A process and method for making a superior lubricant or distillate fuel component by the oligomerization of a mixture comprising olefins to form an oligomer and the alkylation of the oligomer with isoparaffins to produce an alkylated ('capped') olefin oligomer preferably using an acidic chloroaluminate ionic liquid catalyst system. Preferably the ionic liquid catalyst system comprises a Br&#xf6;nsted acid.

A process for manufacturing a lubricating base oil by: a) performing Fischer-Tropsch synthesis on syngas to provide a product stream; b) isolating from said product stream a substantially paraffinic wax feed having less than about 30 ppm total nitrogen and sulfur, and less than about 1 wt % oxygen; c) dewaxing said feed by hydroisomerization dewaxing using a shape selective intermediate pore size molecular sieve comprising a noble metal hydrogenation component, wherein the hydroisomerization temperature is between about 600&#xb0; F. (315&#xb0; C.) and about 750&#xb0; F. (399&#xb0; C.), to produce an is dimerized oil; and d) hydrofinishing said isomerized oil to produce a lubricating base oil having specific desired properties.

Process for manufacturing lubricating base oil with high monocycloparaffins and low multicycloparaffins

A process for manufacturing a finished lubricant by: a) performing Fischer-Tropsch synthesis on syngas to provide a product stream; b) isolating from said product stream a substantially paraffinic wax feed having less than about 30 ppm total nitrogen and sulfur, and less than about 1 wt % oxygen; c) dewaxing said feed by hydroisomerization dewaxing using a shape selective intermediate pore size molecular sieve comprising a noble metal hydrogenation component, wherein the hydroisomerization temperature is between about 600&#xb0; F. (315&#xb0; C.) and about 750&#xb0; F. (399&#xb0; C.), to produce an isomerized oil; and d) hydrofinishing said isomerized oil, whereby a lubricating base oil is produced having specific desired properties; and e) blending the lubricating base oil with at least one lubricant additive.

A composition of lubricating base oil having a weight percent of all molecules with at least one aromatic function less than 0.30, a weight percent of all molecules with at least one cycloparaffin function greater than 10, and a ratio of weight percent of molecules with monocycloparaffins to weight percent of molecules with multicycloparaffins greater than 15.
