A method for forming an electromagnetic shielding material includes causing a first portion of a matrix material to enter a target region of a magnetic field, thereby causing first ferromagnetic particles within the first portion of the matrix material to move such that first longitudinal axes of the first ferromagnetic particles become more aligned with the magnetic field. The method also includes curing the first portion of the matrix material within the target region of the magnetic field and thereafter causing a second portion of the matrix material to enter the target region of the magnetic field, thereby causing second ferromagnetic particles within the second portion of the matrix material to move such that second longitudinal axes of the second ferromagnetic particles become more aligned with the magnetic field. The method also includes curing the second portion of the matrix material within the target region of the magnetic field.

Apparatus and method for forming electromagnetic shielding material

Examples include a method of forming an electromagnetic shielding material, the method including: applying a magnetic field to a precursor material that includes first ferromagnetic particles embedded within a first portion of a matrix material and second ferromagnetic particles embedded within a second portion of the matrix material, thereby causing the first ferromagnetic particles and the second ferromagnetic particles to move such that longitudinal axes of the first ferromagnetic particles and the second ferromagnetic particles become more aligned with the magnetic field; thereafter forcing the first portion of the matrix material through a filter, thereby moving the first ferromagnetic particles from the first portion of the matrix material into the second portion of the matrix material; and curing the second portion of the matrix material to form the electromagnetic shielding material. Additional examples include an electromagnetic shielding material and an apparatus for forming an electromagnetic shielding material.

Electromagnetic shielding material and methods of formation

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding panels and associated methods. An EMI shielding panel includes a binding matrix material and electrically conductive elements distributed throughout the binding matrix material. The electrically conductive elements are aligned such that conductive element longitudinal axes of the electrically conductive elements are at least substantially parallel to a shielding axis of the EMI shielding panel. The electrically conductive elements are configured to at least partially attenuate an incident electromagnetic wave that is incident upon the EMI shielding panel. A method of forming an EMI shielding panel includes providing a shielding mixture that includes electrically conductive elements distributed throughout an uncured binding matrix material, magnetically aligning the electrically conductive elements, and curing the binding matrix material to form the EMI shielding panel.

Electromagnetic interference shielding panels and associated methods

A composition comprising a cyclic olefin copolymer; a particulate filler dispersed in the cyclic olefin copolymer; and a solvent is disclosed. The composition can be used to make a transmissive composite. The transmissive composite and a method of making a transmissive composite panel are also disclosed.

Composites transmissive to visual and infrared radiation and compositions and methods for making the composites

Some variations provide an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal vapor cell with a solid ionic conductor and intercalable-compound electrodes. The intercalable-compound electrodes are used as efficient sources and/or as sinks for alkali metal or alkaline earth metal atoms, thus enabling electrical control over metal atom content in the vapor cell. Some variations provide a vapor-cell system comprising: a vapor-cell region configured to allow a vapor-cell optical path into a vapor-cell vapor phase; a first electrode; a second electrode electrically isolated from the first electrode, wherein the second electrode contains an intercalable compound intercalated by an element selected from Rb, Cs, Na, K, or Sr; and an ion-conducting layer between the first electrode and the second electrode. The ion-conducting layer is ionically conductive for at least one ionic species selected from Rb, Cs, Na, K, or Sr. The intercalable compound is preferably a carbonaceous material, such as graphite.

Alkali source and/or sink using ion-conducting solid electrolyte and intercalation-compound electrode

Some variations provide an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal vapor cell with a solid ionic conductor and intercalable-compound electrodes. The intercalable-compound electrodes are used as efficient sources and/or as sinks for alkali metal or alkaline earth metal atoms, thus enabling electrical control over metal atom content in the vapor cell. The ion-conducting layer is ionically conductive for at least one ionic species selected from Rb, Cs, Na, K, or Sr. The first intercalable compound is preferably a carbonaceous material, such as graphite.

Electrically conductive coating materials, electrically conductive coating systems, and methods including the same are disclosed herein. The electrically conductive coating systems include an electrically conductive base layer, a dielectric layer, and a plurality of electrically conductive elements that are embedded within the dielectric layer. The electrically conductive coating materials include a liquid dielectric and a plurality of electrically conductive elements that are suspended within the liquid dielectric. The methods include applying an electrically conductive coating material to an electrically conductive base layer and curing the electrically conductive coating material to define the electrically conductive coating system. The electrically conductive elements are defined by an elongate body that has a nonlinear conformation and is shaped to extend across at least 80% of an average thickness of the dielectric layer and/or to project from the electrically conductive base layer at least 80% of the average thickness of the dielectric layer.
