A cable splice closure includes a closure body having mating surfaces sealed together. An end seal in the closure has an opening for receiving a cable. The end seal is sealed to the closure body by an adhesive bond. An adhesive injection port in the end seal. The port is provided to communicate an adhesive injected into the end seal to bond surfaces of the end seal and the cable to be received, into a sealed unit. The adhesive is a low surface energy adhesive based on acrylic monomers with organoborane are complexes.

An end seal assembly is adapted to seal the space between at least one cable and a closure to restrict fluid transfer through the seal. The end seal assembly includes an end seal having a body formed from an elastic, flexible material. The body includes a core portion and an extended tail portion. The core portion has an outer peripheral surface, spaced ends, and a wall forming at least one cylindrical opening through the core portion. The cylindrical opening extends between the spaced ends. The wall has two edges communicating with the outer peripheral surface of the core portion to define between the two edges an entrance slot to the at least one of the cylindrical openings. The extended tail portion is integral with and extends from the outer peripheral surface of the core portion. Moreover, the tail portion has a surface tangential to the wall forming the at least one opening. In addition, the tail portion has sufficient length to wrap about the outer peripheral surface of the core portion to form a wrapped end seal such that the tail portion covers the entrance slot of the at least one opening and a cable to be placed therein. The assembly further includes a rigid collar having first and second collar portions that are pivotably interconnected. The first and second portions have inner surfaces that conform to and enclose the wrapped end seal to form an inner cavity between the wrapped end seal and the first and second portions of the collar. The collar also has an outer surface adapted to sealingly abut an end of the closure. Furthermore, the assembly provides for injection of a sealant composition to fill the inner cavity and to bond together the wrapped end seal, the cable (which is placed in the opening), and the rigid collar.

An end seal for a cable splice closure includes a core portion having a slot for receiving a cable. A tail portion, extending from the core portion, is of sufficient length and flexibility to be extended over the slot. An adhesive injection port is provided in the core portion to communicate an adhesive injected into the injection port to the slot to bond into a sealed unit the surfaces of the end seal and the cable to be received. The adhesive is a low surface energy adhesive based on acrylic monomers with organoborane amine complexes.

A cable splice closure includes a closure body having mating surfaces sealed together. An end seal in the closure has an opening for receiving a cable. An end seal for splice closures or for terminals including a body having a core portion and an extended tail portion of a flexible resilient material. The core portion has an outer periphery and openings extending through the core. The openings communicate with the outer periphery. A tail portion is integral with and extends from the core periphery to be wrapped about the core and the cables to be placed in the openings. A sealant strip extends around the cables and between the abutting peripheral surface of the core and the wrapped tail portion. The strip is responsive to electrical or electromagnetic stimulation for heating the sealant strip and causing the strip to bond with adjacent contact surfaces of the cable and the body.

Wrap type cable closure end seal

An end seal for splice closures or for terminals comprising a core portion of a flexible resilient material, which core portion has an outer periphery and openings extending through the core portion, which openings communicate with the outer periphery, and a tail portion which is integral with and extends from the core portion periphery to be wrapped about the core portion and the cables placed in the openings thereof for filling the space between the core portion and the closure end surface.

Splice closures can be readily sealed by wrapping the cables with a mastic and then forming an end for a performed closure by placing the halves of a split ring about the mastic and drawing the halves closed by a toggle fastener including an arcuate leg connected at one end to one half and joined intermediate the fulcrum and handle of a lever supported on the other half to squeeze the mastic about the cables as the halves are drawn together. The closure may be sealed to the ring by a rolling O-ring.

End seal for splice closure

A fiber optic splice closure for protecting the splice made into a transmission cable, containing a plurality of fibers which are to remain unsevered, comprises a base to which the cable is anchored and in which slack fibers in the uncut cable are looped and stored free of transverse barriers. The seal is made with the cables and the base by a mating cover provided with a second area to receive splice trays and slack fibers selected from the cable for splicing.
