A circuit breaker system having an electrical contact system, the electrical contact system includes one or more electrical contacts that are movable between a closed and an open position via a rechargeable spring loaded operating mechanism. An air motor recharging system includes an air motor operably coupled to the operating mechanism for recharging a closing spring. The air motor recharging system further comprises a solenoid valve that, when in an open position, supplies pressurized air to the air motor from a pressurized air storage tank at a preferred operating pressure sufficient to enable the air motor to drive a charging shaft and gear assembly to recharge a closing spring. The circuit breaker system further comprises an air compressor to delivers compressed air to the air storage tank to fill and maintain the storage tank at a preferred storage pressure.

System and method for air motor recharging of spring mechanisms

Hybrid gas circuit breakers comprising a main breaker tank having an interrupter assembly positioned therein, bushing support nozzles laterally extending from the breaker tank, disconnect switches coupled to and extending generally upwardly or vertically from the bushing support nozzles, and bushings assembled to the disconnect switches. In addition, bushing current transformers (BCTs) are assembled on the bushing support nozzles adjacent the breaker tank instead. The lateral positioning of components results in a low assembled height permitting shipping of a fully assembled and tested unit for voltage ratings up to and including 362 kV.

Hybrid circuit breakers

A circuit breaker, or transformer, or insulated bus for use with AC voltages greater than 30 kilovolts and AC currents greater than 400 amperes includes an elongated bushing made from electrically insulating material and having first and second ends. The first end of the bushing is coupled to a main enclosure of the circuit breaker, or transformer, or insulated bus and a terminal pad is coupled to the second end of the bushing. A conductor is disposed in an internal cavity of the bushing in spaced relation to an internal wall of the bushing that defines the internal cavity. The conductor includes first and second segments. A first end of the first segment is electrically connected to a contact of the circuit breaker, or transformer, or insulated bus and a first end of the second segment is electrically connected to the terminal pad. Second ends of the first and second segments are coupled together with a biasing element interposed between the second ends of the first and second segments. The biasing element is operative for biasing the first end of the first segment toward the contact and for biasing the first end of the second segment toward the one terminal pad.

Copper-aluminum electrical joint

A circuit interrupter includes a pair of separable contacts, an operating mechanism for causing separation of the contacts, and a drive mechanism for causing movement of the operating mechanism. The drive mechanism includes a pressure generating propellant charge in communication with an operating cylinder which contains a piston and a piston rod, which piston rod is operatively connected to the operating mechanism. Either or both the propellant charge and the operating cylinder are preselected from a plurality of similar and interchangeable components which have different amounts of effective charge or cross-sectional interior areas respectively, to thereby modify the performance characteristics of the operating mechanism.

Interchangeable chemically operated circuit breaker

A compressed-gas insulated circuit breaker including two spaced apart electrical conductors within a sealed housing, a stationary contact electrically connected to one of the conductors, and a movable contact connected to the other conductor. The movable contact is coupled to a drive mechanism comprising a contact rod secured to the movable contact at one end, and pivotally coupled to a connecting rod at its other end. The connecting rod is pivotally coupled to one of a pair of arms fixedly secured to a rotatable positioning shaft. The other arm is pivotally coupled to a drive rod, and the drive rod is pivotally coupled to a centrally rotatable drive latch. The drive latch is secured to a rotation means, and upon rotation of the drive latch, the drive rod is moved, causing a rotation of the positioning shaft. Upon rotation of the positioning shaft, the connecting rod is moved, causing a longitudinal movement of the contact rod and the movable contact.

Circuit breaker

An improved interrupter-head construction is provided composed substantially entirely of a non-magnetic stainless-steel shell, and, preferably, additionally painted, or coated with a suitable coating, such as, for example, an epoxy primer coat and desirably, although not necessary, a second finish enamel coating.
